Job Description

The Government of Alberta seeks a Sustainable Resource Manager in Red Deer, AB. Responsibilities include ensuring compliance with Forest Management Plans, communicating sustainable practices to stakeholders, mediating conflicts, collaborating on forest plans, and auditing timber operations. Candidates need a degree in Forestry or related fields, four years of experience, a Class 5 Driver's License, and relevant certifications. The position is full-time and non-remote.
Responsibilities
• Maintain vital linkages between industry planning, silvicultural activities, and forest operations to ensure compliance with detailed Forest Management Plans (FMA), quota agreements, provincial legislation, and departmental directives.
• Convey sustainable forest management principles to diverse stakeholders including forest and other industries, the public, and Indigenous communities through effective communication.
• MEDiate conflicts between various interest groups to promote harmony and sustainability.
• Collaborate closely with embedded tenure holders to develop and implement Forest Management Plans and operational ground rules.
• Audit timber harvesting operations through our Forest Operations Monitoring Program and audits of Timber Scaling activities ensuring compliance with established standards and best practices.
• Contribute expertise to the development of regulations, policies, and procedures aimed at enhancing forest sustainability and management practices.
Requirements

• University degree in Forestry, Sciences, Natural Resources or a related field plus four (4) years of related experience.
• Class 5 Driver's License.
• Canada Safety Council endorsed Defensive Driving Course.
• First Aid, Level 'C' CPR certificate.
• Eligible for registration with the Association of Alberta Forest Management Professionals.
