Job Description

Argonne National Laboratory is seeking a Sustainable Materials & Processes Data Modeling and Analysis Group Leader in Lemont, IL. The role involves leading research in sustainable technologies, managing projects, and collaborating with various stakeholders. Candidates should have extensive experience in techno-economic analysis, life cycle analysis, and project management. Key skills include leadership, process design, and knowledge of decarbonization technologies. This is a full-time position.
The Applied Materials Division at Argonne National Laboratory conducts research to develop sustainable technologies and improve resource and energy utilization efficiency. Its goals include minimizing dependence on imported energy and enhancing national security.

A Sustainable Materials & Processes Data Modeling and Analysis Group Leader position is available for a candidate with leadership skills and experience in techno-economic analysis (TEA) and life cycle analysis (LCA). This leader will collaborate with the department manager, division director, project leaders, and a team of experts to support the Sustainable Materials and Processes Department's missions and strategies.

The successful candidate will manage and expand research projects by interacting with DOE program managers and collaborating across Argonne, national laboratories, universities, and industry. They will work closely with project leads to plan and execute projects, manage budgets, and support Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility-related activities and outreach at the lab.

This candidate will play a key role in developing data modeling and analysis capabilities in the Sustainable Materials and Processes Department. The group focuses on recycling and decarbonization technologies. A good knowledge of process design, simulation, and optimization is important. The candidate should be familiar with databases, tools, and methodologies relevant to TEA and LCA.
Position Requirements
• Minimum 8+ years of experience or Master's degree and 5+ years of experience or Doctorate degree and 4+ years of experience.
• Proven record of conceptual process design, economics, and sustainability analysis of sustainable materials and processes.
• Ability to identify new research areas, develop proposals, and build sponsor relationships.
• Experience leading interdisciplinary research projects and managing teams.
• Project management experience and problem-solving skills.
• Collaborative skills and ability to work with diverse backgrounds within Argonne and other institutions.
• Modeling of Argonne's Core Values: Impact, Safety, Respect, Integrity, and Teamwork.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
• Leadership skills.
• Mastery of Microsoft Excel and computer programming skills.
• Knowledge of process modeling, techno-economic analysis, and life cycle analysis.
• Understanding of decarbonization technologies and their supply chains.
• Experience working with EverBatt, GREET, and BatPaC models.
• Familiarity with Aspen Plus or chemical engineering commercial process simulators.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
