Job Description
The United Nations Development Programme is seeking a Sustainable Finance Capacities Analyst for its New York office. This role supports the SDG Finance Academy in providing training and expertise on sustainable finance, focusing on public and private sector partnerships to achieve the SDGs. Background:
UNDP’s Strategic Plan identifies development financing as an enabler to scale up development impact and calls on partners to join UNDP in its $1 trillion ‘Moonshot’ target to help mobilise game-changing public and private sector resources towards the SDGs. UNDP’s Sustainable Finance Hub has established four offers through which country offices can scale up their engagements with public and private partners towards the delivery of the SDGs and to achieve this Moonshot.
Ultimately these offers will contribute to the systemic transformation required for finance to deliver on the SDGs at scale in all countries. These services are interlinked and offered across the following areas: (i) Public Finance for the SDGs; (ii) Private Finance for the SDGs (iii) Integrated National Financing Frameworks and Portfolios; and (iv) the SDG Finance Academy.
To take sustainable finance to required scale and collectively achieve $1 trillion of public expenditure and private capital in the SDGs, UNDP is working across its Global Policy Network (GPN) and building its expertise and capacities of Country Offices and Regional Bureaus so that they can offer and tailor SFH products and services to clients supported by an internal and external experts.
Further, as part of its role as SDG Integrator, UNDP is committed to promoting partnerships to develop SDG finance capacities of all stakeholders, including governments as UNDPs key client, and the private sector to collectively design and implement finance instruments and reforms at the country levels.
To scale and expand the reach of the SDG Finance Academy’s technical skill offering to UNDP country offices, and public and private partners. The Academy delivers in-person training and self directed e-learning on sustainable finance in the areas of public finance, unlocking private capital, impact management and finance tracking, and financing strategies.
To develop these skills, share knowledge and provide expertise, which lead to the generation of such engagements with partners to scale SDG finance, UNDP has established the SDG Finance Academy. Being a part of the Sustainable Finance Hub Team, the Sustainable Finance Capacities Analyst will support the SDG Finance Academy to provide training, share knowledge and curate experts across various policy areas such as climate, crisis contexts and fragile states, gender equality, governance etc.
These efforts will in turn, support colleagues internally at UNDP and externally in the public and private sectors to shape policy reforms and design financial instruments to solve development challenges and contribute to the trillion dollar moonshot.
Duties and Responsibilities
General support to the SDG Finance Academy:
• Supporting the planning, development and delivery of SDG Finance Academy training events.
• Supporting the ongoing development and delivery of the SDG Finance Academy e-Learning programme.including coordinating the translation of course materials with regional staff
Technical support on sustainable finance in crisis contexts joint Offer between UNDP and Crisis Bureau:
• Develop a policy paper and evidence base outlining the role of sustainable finance, evidencing UNDPs Offers, in crisis settings and fragile states.
• Support the design of forthcoming joint trainings between Sustainable Finance Hub and Crisis Bureau on sustainable finance in fragile and crisis contexts and NEXUS.
