Job Description

Edible Earth Farm is hiring a part-time Sustainable Agriculture Worker for their Packhouse, Greenhouse, and High Tunnel operations in Sandy Lake, PA. Ideal candidates are detail-oriented, passionate about farming, and willing to learn. Responsibilities include grading, sorting, packing food products, and greenhouse activities. Dependable transportation and the ability to lift 50lbs are required. Pay starts at $15 per hour, with some flexibility in scheduling.
Overview
We are seeking dedicated and hardworking individuals to join our team as a Packhouse, Greenhouse and High Tunnel Worker. This would be a great job for a young person who wants to learn about medium-scale farming but not full-time. Some flexibility allowed during non-delivery weeks. Requires an eye towards detail and quality. Additional benefits available for someone who can slay in this role, like food for the family. The ideal candidate will have a passion for food, farming and horticulture and a willingness to learn and engage in various tasks that contribute to the overall success of our growing operation.

Duties
As a Packhouse, Greenhouse and High Tunnel Worker, your responsibilities will include:
• Grade, sort, clean, wash and pack various fruit, vegetables, grains and other food products.
• Plant, Trellis, Harvest out of greenhouses and high tunnels
• Assemble, disassemble and manage food related packaging materials.
• Enforce quality standards.
• Implement quality and food safety standards.
• Assist on the order packing line, as needed.
• Maintain and clean work areas, tables, machines, coolers and other packhouse areas.
• Greenhouse related activities including seeding, transplanting, watering and record keeping
• Occasional harvest of vegetables in greenhouses, high tunnels and fields

Experience
While prior experience in packing houses, greenhouses, high tunnels or farming operations is beneficial, it is not mandatory. We welcome candidates who are eager to learn and possess the following skills:
• Most importantly, the ability to prove good work ethic and moral fortitude
• High school graduate or equivalency certificate (GED)

Requirements

MUST:
• Have dependable transportation and a telephone.
• Be able to lift 50lbs.
• Be able to work on your feet for 8-10 hours a day.
• Be available to work every-other week on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
• Be detail oriented with an ability to count.
• Have strong organizational skills with a focus on quality and cleanliness.
• Be motivated, quick and reliable.
• Have a strong ability to stay focused on tasks without verbal communication.
• Have the ability to follow detailed instructions.
• Have proven ability in these areas and solid references.
• Be fast!

Additional Details
• Probationary/trial period for ideal candidate to assess worker suitability, skills and performance.
• Additional hours with additional responsibilities may be available and awarded with good performance.
• This is a tobacco-free and cellphone-free workplace
