Responsibilities:
The Sustaining Project Manager is responsible for designing, implementing, and overseeing sustainability initiatives within our organization and providing technical leadership for the execution of these plans. Works across departments to plan environmentally beneficial impacts with measurable results. Creates and supports manufacturing processes that reduce waste, reduce resource consumption, recycle materials and gain efficiency. Develop and monitors key performance indicators and provides stakeholders with sustainability program reports. Develops and deploys systems to ensure conformance to standards, regulatory requirements and customer expectations related to sustainability. This Project Manager will typically be overseeing several projects at once.
Sustainability Strategy Development: Work to establish a campus wide environmental mission statement and set of goals for our environmental impact, then turn these inputs into a sustainability program. Create sustainability plans with results measured by an Environmental Impact Assessment.
Suggested sustainability initiatives:
Work across departments to become ISCC+ certified (an approved initiative). The initial goal is tip product release by July 2025. Implement systems to maintain this certification and audits to ensure future compliance. This may include setting a carbon footprint reduction goal.
Investigate, propose and implement recycling programs. This may include a post-consumer tip material, a companywide corrugated recovery program and a pallet salvage system.
Work with the facilities group to review resource efficiency and energy use alternatives. Investigate, propose, and implement renewable energy infrastructure. Review water use and conservation including our disposal methods and escapes. Review our buildings, insulation, methods of heating / cooling, and use/type of lighting. This may include using heat exchangers to re-capture our air compressor exhaust to heat the facility.
Work with our logistic group to review the supply chain and reduce waste and shipping where possible. Review the company delivery truck & van use and electric alternatives.
Create a training program for our employees to increase engagement and ownership in the above initiatives and aid in the generation of future improvements.
Facilitate the creation of sustainability-related policies with various departments.
Devise and deploy systems to communicate Hamilton sustainability information to customers and third-party rating services.
Calculate and monitor greenhouse gas emissions and report to internal and external stakeholders.
Develop and deploy sustainability key performance indicators (KPI) and reporting mechanisms.
Identify industry trends related to sustainability and develop and deploy strategies that allow the company to meet upcoming regulatory requirements and customer expectations.
Assist in obtaining environmental management system and other certifications as required.
Qualifications:
Must have good written and oral communication skills.
Must have knowledge of product design, manufacturing, cost management and cause/effect relationships.
Must be able to demonstrate a strong personality capable of self-assertion, should also be diplomatic and people oriented, and a team player.
Demonstrated leadership ability, decision-making skills and ability to facilitate change across departments.
Strong skills in data and statistical analysis.
Position requires exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.
Education/Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related field from a regionally accredited not-for-profit College or University.
Minimum of 5 years experience within the engineering discipline, preferably relating to the company product areas; e.g. design and manufacture of multi-discipline electro-mechanical/ robotic instruments.
Experience managing projects relating to one or more of the four pillars of Sustainability (Human, Social, Economic, Environmental) preferred.
