Sustainability Manager -
This position works with the Director of the Office of Sustainability to advance a campus-wide culture of sustainability and social justice for Loyola University Chicago. Specific responsibilities are serving as a point of contact for sustainability at Loyola's Water Tower and Health Sciences Campuses, overseeing outreach and engagement on sustainability topics, advising and mentoring students and student organizations, and managing student workers or interns.

These roles take roughly 60% of this position's time, including direct work and student oversight. The other 40% is spread across many areas including supporting faculty and student research projects, advising student, staff, or faculty sustainability efforts, coordinating events and committees, supporting on-campus and off-campus partnerships, working on the individual and systematic advancement of Loyola's sustainability goals and other initiatives as they arise.

A successful candidate will be committed to integrating students into this process while maintaining a professional and positive approach to projects and programs. They will also be open to supporting academic and scholarly efforts that align with campus sustainability initiatives, including 'Campus as a Living Laboratory' and 'Sustainability Across the Curriculum'. The ability to present publicly to students, staff, faculty, and visitors will be important, as the engagement and outreach of Loyola's sustainability initiatives are critical.

Duties and Responsibilities
• Internal Consultant: Develops relationships with LUC and community stakeholders to advance the sustainability elements of the University's Strategic Plan toward Carbon Neutrality.
• Transportation: promotes the reduction of single occupancy vehicle usage; promotes campus bike programs. Lead Bicycle Friendly University certification submissions with the American League of Bicyclists
• Waste Reduction: Oversee all Zero Waste Programs including recycling, composting, and source reduction programs and activities. Manage institutional waste tracking and communications with waste hauler, advise LUC Facilities Department on hauler contract negotiations
• Food Sustainability: Engage embedded Loyola vendors, Facilities, and the community to meet sustainability goals, promote sustainability such as sourcing, efficiency, waste reduction; composting; etc.
• Sustainability Tracking: Co-lead AASHE STARS submission on behalf of the university & co-manage the annual university greenhouse gas inventory data collection and reporting process and track progress towards the LUC Climate Action Plan
• Student Engagement: Collaborates with student-oriented departments such as Student Development and Residence Life in the development of programs including orientation, living/learning communities, professional development, and commencement.
• Student Supervision and Mentorship: Oversee ~10-15 undergraduate and graduate interns working on sustainability engagement and outreach, zero waste programs, and data tracking.
• Program Delivery: Develops and manages programs and co-curricular activities that support the University's sustainability efforts including Think Green and Give; Bike Commuter Challenge, and sustainable procurement.
• Campus Resource: Mobilizes and coordinates student and community volunteers who participate in environmental sustainability programs/activities and special events. Assists undergraduate students and student groups in pursuing environmental academic and leadership experiences and projects serving as mentor and advisor.
• External Engagement: Gives public talks, and engages with diverse university audiences to share information and heighten awareness. Creates and distributes communication materials about sustainability to a diversity of internal and external audiences. Builds new relationships and fosters existing relationships with local and regional partners.
• Communications and Marketing: Manage Office of Sustainability communications including email newsletters, websites, webinars, guest lectures, and resources. Occasional guest lectures on sustainability topics.
• Performs related duties as required.

Minimum Education and/or Work Experience:Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred. Three to five years of related work experience is required.

Strategic Energy Management, International Society of Sustainability Professionals, LEED, WELL, True, and other specific certifications are recognized.
