Bala Consulting is seeking an expert in building energy performance and sustainability consulting to join our team as a Sustainability Engineer.
Bala Consulting Engineers is a 200-person engineering firm headquartered just outside of Philadelphia in Wayne, PA with full-service offices in New York, NY, Boston, MA, Baltimore, MD, and Washington, DC.

As a Sustainability Engineer, you’ll be part of a team delivering high performance, decarbonized building designs and sustainability analyses to clients. Using building industry knowledge, you will be integral to driving decarbonization efforts by acting as a consultant to your teammates and clients and provide guidance for energy compliance, net zero emissions, and climate resiliency.We are looking for candidates that have a strong desire to grow into a leadership role within the firm.
Primary responsibilities will include:
Net Zero Energy/Carbon Road MappingWhole building life cycle assessment/embodied carbon modelingGreen building certification support (LEED, WELL, Green Globes, etc)Renewable energy analysisIncentive and rebate program supportElectrification consultingHigh-Level Energy Modeling using IES-VE.Energy & Decarbonization AuditingClimate Risk and Resiliency AssessmentsUnderstanding of local and national energy codes and policiesConsultation related to sustainability strategies, energy efficiency measures, innovative technologies, voluntary rating standards, codes, industry trends, etc.Keep up to date on new and existing tools, sustainability strategies and energy efficiency measuresESG and Sustainability Reporting ConsultingInternal sustainability reporting for AIA 2030, MEP 2040, SE 2050, and more.
Skills:
Ability to read, review, and evaluate Architectural and Engineering drawings and visualize three-dimensional models
Familiarity with design tools such as Revit, OneClick LCA, Tally, IESVE , InDesignBasic understanding of proper system selection and applicable building codesKnowledge of LEED and Green Globes design principles. LEED accredited and Green Globes Professional or on track to achieving accreditation is ideal (not required)Strong communicator, in written, visual, and verbal formatsThe basic requirements for this position include:
0-5 years of experienceStrong technical writing Presentation and client interface abilitiesProficient knowledge of applicable codesDetail-oriented and deadline drivenAbility to take direction and act independentlyAbility to manage multiple priorities and stay organizedEducation Requirement:
