Job Description
Georgetown University is seeking a Sustainability Engineer to support campus engineering projects and energy efficiency initiatives. Responsibilities include collaborating with various departments, providing engineering guidance, developing strategies to reduce energy usage, and conducting project reviews. Candidates should have a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering and 3+ years of relevant experience. This full-time role is based in Washington, DC, and focuses on sustainability and reducing the carbon footprint.
About This Position
As an Energy Engineer with Planning and Facilities Management/Office of Engineering and Utilities at Georgetown University, you will play a key role in supporting campus engineering projects and energy efficiency initiatives. Your focus will be on controls and technical support to establish maintenance and operational requirements for controls, mechanical equipment, and facilities. By addressing identified issues and reducing building energy usage and carbon footprint, you will contribute to achieving Georgetown University's 2031 EUI Reduction target and Building Energy Performance Standards targets mandated by D.C. law.
Your Key Responsibilities
This position involves:
• Collaborating with the Office of Engineering and Utilities, Capital Projects, Facilitates Operations, University Information Services, and building end-users to complete tasks.
• Providing engineering guidance and support for campus engineering projects and energy efficiency initiatives.
• Developing and implementing strategies to reduce building energy usage and carbon footprint.
• Conducting construction controls project reviews for compliance with GU Standards (such as MSI Division 25) and incorporation of best practices for energy efficiency.
• Utilizing retro-commissioning and fault detection and diagnostics (FDD) to identify and implement energy conservation opportunities and correct building deficiencies.
• Training and informing maintenance staff on energy conservation initiatives.
• Developing, enhancing, and tracking preventive maintenance to support energy conservation.
• Assessing the performance of completed energy conservation projects to ensure they achieve performance goals.
Requirements and Qualifications
To be considered for this role, you must have a Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering discipline or an equivalent combination of training and experience. You should also possess 3+ Years of progressive experience in design, engineering, construction, or facilities management roles. Additionally, you should demonstrate professional passion for sustainability and reducing energy usage. Excellent customer service skills, ability to work effectively with various personality types, and strong analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities are essential.
