We are seeking a Sustainability Director to drive WJ’s sustainability strategy, ensuring alignment with our business objectives, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices. Job Description
As our Sustainability Director, you will lead the development and execution of our Sustainability strategy, ensuring we grow responsibly, enhancing nature rather than exploiting it, and nurturing our people and communities. You will work closely with key stakeholders, including internal teams, industry bodies, regulators, and clients, to embed sustainability across all areas of our operations.
Key Responsibilities:
• Lead the development, implementation, and execution of WJ’s sustainability strategy.
• Integrate sustainability into core business strategy, ensuring alignment with financial goals, investor expectations, and market positioning.
• Set measurable sustainability goals and targets, ensuring alignment with corporate and regulatory frameworks.
• Drive continuous improvement and industry best practices, working with recognised international standards, including ISO 9001, 14001, 14064, 14067, 14040, 50001, PAS 2050, PAS 2080, FORS, CLOCS, and SBTi.
• Stay ahead of emerging sustainability trends, legislation, and innovations, ensuring WJ remains a leader in the sector.
• Work closely with our products, engineering, and innovation teams to integrate sustainability into product development and operational strategies.
• Engage with external stakeholders, government bodies, clients, and sustainability organisations to champion WJ’s commitment to environmental and social impact.
• Represent WJ in industry forums and working groups, influencing policy and driving thought leadership in sustainable highways solutions.
Qualifications
What We’re Looking For:
• A passionate and strategic leader with a proven track record in sustainability, ESG, or environmental leadership within products, engineering, manufacturing, or infrastructure.
• Demonstrable experience in driving sustainability programs, regulatory compliance, and stakeholder engagement at a senior level.
• A natural influencer and change leader, able to engage internal and external stakeholders to embed a sustainability-first culture.
• Proven track record of developing and executing Sustainability or related strategies and policies. Preferably from an Engineering, Manufacturing, Infrastructure industry
• A deep understanding of UK sustainability legislation, reporting standards, and industry best practices.
