Mars is seeking a Sustainability Climate Data Lead in Schiller Park, IL, responsible for managing greenhouse gas (GHG) impact factor development and guiding sustainability teams on GHG accounting. Job Description:

Mars has external science-based Climate Action targets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) -50% by 2030 and net zero by 2050 versus a 2015 baseline. The Sustainability Climate Data Lead is an important role for reporting our annual GHG footprint and program reductions through impact factor development, enabling lower GHG product innovation, and guiding teams on GHG accounting requirements.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for someone who is a strong project manager, comfortable collaborating across internal and external teams, and has subject matter expertise in greenhouse gas accounting and impact factor development processes.

What will be your key responsibilities?

Project Manage GHG Impact Factor Development
• Project manage the development of supplier-specific GHG impact factors by coordinating data collection with suppliers, consultants and internal reporting teams and integrating into Mars’ annual GHG reporting process.
• Map new ingredients introduced to the business via M&A or new product development to Mars’ impact factor database for annual GHG reporting.

Guide on Technical GHG Accounting Requirements & Methodologies
• Work with the Corporate Reporting team to understand GHG Protocol requirements and guide Mars Snacking sustainability teams on how to apply them in our supply chain programs. Requirements to cover topics such as GHG removals, farm project MRV (monitoring, reporting & validation), co-product allocation, traceability, and verification.

Unlock 2030 and Net Zero GHG Reduction Opportunities
• Lead improvement of existing GHG impact factors and run scenario analyses to advise on the GHG impact of implementing new solutions in our supply chains.
• Act as a co-pilot to the R&D teams as they evaluate how new ingredients or recipe changes could impact GHG emissions and support net zero.

Education & Professional Qualifications
• Bachelors' degree in science/technical, data science, project management, sustainable management, supply chain, business, or equivalent
• MBA a plus

Knowledge / Experience
• 5-7 years of experience in Sustainability as a technical expert, including impact factor and/or life cycle analysis (LCA) experience
• Knowledge/understanding of global supply chains
• Strong project management skills, including the ability to prioritize and manage multiple issues, manage scope and risks
• Passionate about sustainability data and metrics. Quantitative reasoning skills, including the ability to work with numbers and to summarize data into graphical or tabular forms.
• Presentation skills. The ability to present, explain and discuss results of analyses to effectively drive fact-based decision making within all levels of the organization
• Ability to collaborate across multiple functions of the business and externally.
• Comfortable navigating digital systems for data management
• Strong experience managing data in Excel

The base pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between the range listed below, however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including but not limited to, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, if eligible, including variable pay, medical and dental benefits, participation in 401k plan, and paid time off benefits. Eligibility for these additional elements depend on the position offered and the employee’s work schedule (i.e., part-time schedule, store associate). Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an applicant receives an offer of employment.
