Job Description

West Fraser is seeking a Superintendent of Energy Systems and Kiln Operations in Malvern, AR. The role involves leading power plant operations, ensuring safety and compliance, managing maintenance, and overseeing energy projects. Candidates should have at least five years of experience in a similar setting, strong communication skills, and the ability to make quick decisions. Key Responsibilities:
• Lead and manage the power plant operations to ensure safety, efficiency, and compliance with all codes and regulations.
• Oversee maintenance and repair of underground utility systems infrastructure.
• Serve as project manager for all energy projects and drying operations within the division.
• Promote a safe and clean working environment by adhering to safety and security protocols, identifying and addressing unsafe conditions.
• Supervise daily operations of the generating unit or plant, holding team members accountable for safety and productivity.
• Ensure rigorous compliance with local, state, and federal environmental regulations.
• Implement supervisory duties according to company policies and guidelines.
• Provide on-the-job training for operator trainees, apprentices, and new control operators.
• Collaborate with corporate trading and load dispatching teams to meet generation expectations.
• Build strong working relationships with Administration, Engineering, and Maintenance departments.
• Develop and implement initiatives to improve thermal efficiency.
• Manage operational costs effectively and monitor budget adherence.
• Coordinate and prioritize maintenance tasks to ensure critical work is completed.
• Regularly update and maintain plant operating procedures and guidelines.
• Maximize energy generation and advance efficient operation of all power plant processes.

Qualifications:
• Minimum of five years of operations experience in a biomass boiler power plant or similar industrial setting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, including a bachelor's degree along with one year of practical experience.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to set expectations, coach employees, and foster collaboration across departments.
• Ability to make informed decisions quickly during critical situations.
• Basic computer proficiency, encompassing email and word processing.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Comprehensive knowledge of biomass boiler operations and related plant systems.
• Experience in the wood products industry is a plus.
• Demonstrated supervisory skills and capacity to implement action plans for effective daily operations.
• Understanding of operational performance improvement concepts such as heat rate and turbine performance.
• Familiarity with boiler cycle chemistry.
• Experience with maintenance management systems.
• Experience in environments with collective bargaining agreements.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools.
