Summer Environmental Campaign Positions

The Fund for the Public Interest is hiring full-time canvassers and field managers in Chicago, IL, for a summer campaign to protect wetlands. Responsibilities include educating the public, raising funds, and supervising staff. Candidates should have strong communication skills and a passion for social change. This summer, work to protect Illinois’ wetlands in our canvassing and field manager positions.

Wetlands are incredibly important to our state, providing clean water, wildlife habitat and flood prevention. But only about 10% of our historic wetlands are left and we can’t afford to lose any more. So we’re working to stop our remaining wetlands from being developed or destroyed.

In order to protect this critical ecosystem, we are hiring canvassers and field managers to educate the public about the issue, raise critical funds, and generate the visibility necessary to influence decision-makers.

As a canvasser this summer you will:
• Educate and engage citizens on a campaign to make real change on pressing environmental and public interest issues
• Develop essential communication and political advocacy skills
• Build membership and raise money for nonprofit groups in your community
• Earn leadership opportunities, supervising and managing staff in the field
• Gain the experience and connections needed to launch your career in nonprofit and policy work

Pay: Staff earn a base pay between $17 and $27, plus staff can earn 20% of what they raise over our minimum standard, which means staff have the opportunity to earn over $20 per hour. Staff never earn less than minimum wage for the hours that they work. So, depending on performance, you could earn an average of between $17 to $30 per hour.

Pay: Average of $17.00 - $27.00 per hour
