Job Description

The Fund for the Public Interest is hiring canvassers and field managers for a summer campaign in Anchorage, AK, focused on reducing e-waste through a Right to Repair bill. The position involves educating the public, fundraising, and gaining advocacy skills. The campaign runs from mid-May to mid-June, offering a pay range of $15 to $25 per hour, with opportunities for advancement. This is an in-person role.
This summer, spend five weeks building support to reduce e-waste by passing a Right to Repair bill in Alaska.

E-waste is the fastest growing waste stream in the world, and it's full of toxic material. Americans purchase 160 million new smartphones each year and throw away 416,000 phones every day. We could avoid much of this if companies just made it easier to fix the stuff we already own. Instead, companies restrict access to parts and tools, forcing consumers to replace rather than repair their electronic devices.

In order to reduce e-waste, we are hiring canvassers and field managers to run a short campaign to educate the public about the issue, raise critical funds, and generate the visibility necessary to pass a Right to Repair bill in Alaska next spring.

As a canvasser you will:
• Educate and engage citizens on a campaign to make real change on a pressing environmental issue
• Develop essential communication and political advocacy skills
• Build membership and raise money for a nonprofit group in your community
• Earn leadership opportunities, supervising and managing staff in the field
• Gain the experience and connections needed to launch your career in nonprofit and policy work

We are looking for:

We are seeking hard-working individuals with good communication skills and a passion for social change. The campaign will run from mid-May through mid-June.

Pay: Staff earn a base pay of $15, plus staff can earn 20% of what they raise over our minimum standard, which means staff have the opportunity to earn over $20 per hour. Staff never earn less than minimum wage for the hours that they work. So, depending on performance, you could earn an average of between $15 to $30 per hour.

Pay: Average of $15.00 - $25.00 per hour

The Fund for the Public Interest is an equal opportunity employer.

COVID-19: We take COVID-19 safety very seriously. Employees must follow our COVID safety protocols and be fully vaccinated and boosted. Accommodations are provided to the extent required by law.
