Job Description

Transgrid is seeking a Substation Operations Specialist in Newcastle, NSW, to lead and supervise high-voltage substation work programs. This role involves hands-on leadership, mentoring teams, and ensuring safety compliance while coordinating resources. Candidates should have an electrical trade background and extensive substation experience. The position requires strong leadership skills and proficiency in ERP tools, Excel, and Power BI.

We're growing our workforce to drive innovation and transformation in the energy sector. As a Field Coordinator at Transgrid, you'll be at the centre of Australia's electricity transmission operations leading the safe and efficient delivery of work across high-voltage substation sites.

This is more than just coordination It's hands-on leadership, working alongside your team to tackle complex technical challenges while mentoring and growing your team. You'll have the autonomy to make real-time decisions in the field, the backing of experienced planners and engineers, and the satisfaction of knowing your work directly supports the delivery of safe and reliable energy to millions.

Key Responsibilities:
• Lead and supervise the day-to-day execution of substation work programs, including maintenance, upgrades, and emergency repairs
• Provide visible, hands-on leadership in the field while coaching your team, resolving issues on the spot and ensuring compliance with safety procedures and work quality expectations
• Act as the key point of contact for field crews during critical tasks, escalating issues where needed, and ensuring strong communication across field operations and project stakeholders
• Coordinate field resources; including people, equipment, mobile plant and work closely with planning teams to optimise scheduling, manage priorities, and minimise downtime

About You:
• Educational qualifications in electrical trade and extensive substation experience
• Strong leadership and decision-making skills in field environments
• Knowledge of high-voltage transmission systems and safety compliance
• Proficiency with ERP tools, Excel, and Power BI for reporting
