Job Description

Ada County Highway District is seeking a Student Intern for the Environmental Department in Garden City, ID. This paid position offers $16.00 per hour and is open to full-time students. Responsibilities include supporting stormwater monitoring, conducting inspections, and assisting with data entry. Candidates should have strong organizational skills, be able to work independently, and preferably be majoring in Geo Sciences or related fields. The role requires a valid Idaho Driver’s License.
Ada County Highway District is now accepting applications for a Student Intern to work in the Environmental Department. This is a paid intern position with a wage of $16.00 per hour. This position is currently open and will remain open until filled.

The Student Intern position is available to full-time students only. Student Interns may work a maximum of 24 hours per week during the school year, and 40 hours per week during the summer and other school breaks.

Primary Responsibilities
• Supports the NPDES dry weather outfall inspection and stormwater monitoring programs. Assists with sample collection, storm drain outfall inspection/investigation, storm event preparation, coordinating with laboratory personnel for sampling supplies, stocking field boxes, preparing equipment and calibrating meters.
• Storm drain outfall inspection/investigation involves using maps, written directions, and photos to locate previously identified outfalls and record observations that may impact water quality.
• Assists with downloading and maintaining station equipment, data entry, QA/QC and updating equipment inventories.
• Also supports the basin revegetation program by assisting in inspections and light maintenance activities.

Qualifications
• Requires strong organizational and note-taking skills, ability to carry and lift up to 45 pounds, able to walk/hike safely on uneven terrain, ability to read and interpret drainage related maps, and have some knowledge and understanding of Boise area hydrology.
• Must be able to work independently and as a team in an urban and rural field environment, including inclement weather conditions.
• Must be comfortable with the use of computers and ability to learn new software.
• Must be able to present a positive and professional image to the public.
• Strong problem-solving skills are desired.
• Familiarity with electronics and environmental sensors are a plus.
• Students with a Geo Sciences, Biology, or Environmental Sciences major or a related major are preferred.
• Must have a valid Idaho Driver’s License and be at least 18 years old.
