Job Description

The University of Kansas is hiring a Student Environmental Science Course Assistant to support an online course for non-science majors. Responsibilities include grading discussion posts, providing feedback, managing communications, monitoring grades, and maintaining records. Candidates must have strong writing skills and be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours. Remote work is not typically allowed unless an exception is approved.
Position OverviewThe student assistant will support an online taught Environmental Science course designed for non-science majors. Primary responsibilities include grading online discussion posts and graphical assignments, as well as providing clear, constructive feedback to students.Job Description60% – Grading and Feedback:

Evaluate discussion posts and short writing assignments, providing concise, constructive feedback in alignment with course rubrics and learning objectives.
20% – Communication Support:

Monitor course-related emails and respond to routine student inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
10% – Grade Monitoring:

Review grade entries for accuracy and consistency across assignments, ensuring alignment with grading policies.
10% – Record-Keeping:

Maintain organized and up-to-date records of student performance, feedback, and correspondence to support course administration.
Required Qualifications
• Strong written communication skills, with the ability to provide clear, constructive feedback as indicated on application materials..
• Junior standing or higher as indicated on application materials.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience with teaching, tutoring, or grading in an academic setting as evidenced in application materials.Additional coursework in environmental studies, or a related field as evidenced in application materials.
Position RequirementsDuring the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: (1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or (2) be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or (3) be enrolled in summer session or (4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).Employment Conditions(1) Student employees are not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by the unit leadership and HR.

(2) This is an hourly/non-exempt position. A student employee cannot hold an hourly/non-exempt position and a salaried/exempt graduate or undergraduate position (GRA/GTA/GA/RUA/RGA) concurrently.Additional Candidate InstructionsIn addition to the online application the candidates must provide the following to ensure consideration:
