Job Summary

The Environmental Health & Safety Technician focuses on identifying, assessing, and correcting occupational safety hazards and environmental hazards. The program focuses on storage of materials, housekeeping, building ventilation, maintenance and laboratory storage practices, and other building and departmental operational practices. The program heavily relies upon the OSHA, NFPA, CDC, and EPA guidance and regulations to maintain safety and compliance. Students majoring in environmental science and engineering related fields are encouraged to apply to gain the experience and knowledge to identify facility and external physical conditions that affects humans and built and natural environments.
Responsibilities
• Learn about indoor and natural environments conditions that have the potential to affect health and performance and gain hands on experience in large facility planning and management.
• Contribute to enhancing the health & safety of building occupants.
• Work with faculty and staff to promote easy and effective procedures to enhance indoor air and environmental quality.
• Expand on interpersonal skills through communication with building occupants.
• Assist with day-to-day operations that improve indoor environments.
• Learn to perform sampling to identify potential health hazards in the workplace.
• Compile collected data into reports.
• Work on more in depth building projects based on interest areas.
Required Qualifications
• Must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours at Georgia Gwinnett College.
• Must be in good academic standing and maintain good academic standing for the duration of employment.
• Must be in good conduct standing with the Office of Student Integrity and maintain good conduct for the duration of employment.
• Eager to learn about and advocate for health and wellbeing in built and natural environments; creative and enthusiastic.
• Effective written and oral communication skills.
• Can work well independently as well as collaboratively.
• Organized, self-motivated and accountable for work.
• Able to commit 10 - 20 hours per week.
