Job Description
The State of Missouri is hiring for a position in Jefferson City, MO, with the Department of Natural Resources, focusing on environmental safety and compliance. Responsibilities include assisting with compliance issues, conducting audits, and participating in field activities requiring travel and outdoor work. The role demands skills in analytical thinking, attention to detail, and knowledge of environmental science. Certifications in drinking water and asbestos inspection may be required.

This is position is with Missouri Department of Natural Resources, Division of State Parks, Safety and Wellness Program and will report to 1659 E. Elm Street, Jefferson City. This position typically works Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. This position provides the opportunity to assist the State Park team in protecting and preserving our natural and cultural resources through environmental safety and compliance.
• Assist division staff with environmental compliance issues.
• Participate in technical meetings, site visits, sampling events and other field activities. Field activities require frequent statewide travel and working outdoors, traversing rough terrain, walk long distances, climb ladders, operate small and medium size hand tools, bend, lift and kneel.
• Administer drinking water, wastewater, asbestos, hazardous, and solid waste compliance efforts.
• Evaluate projects for environmental impacts and compliance with state and federal regulations and organizational guidelines.
• Prepare and review environmental related permits and other technical documents to ensure regulatory compliance.
• Conduct environmental audits and investigations.
• Coordinate swimming beach health and safety operations.
• Develop and conduct environmental health and safety related training.
• Maintain effective relationships with other governmental regulatory entities.
This position may be required to obtain and maintain any one or combination of the following certifications: Drinking Water-D Certification, Wastewater-D Certification, Distribution System-1 Certification.
This position is required to obtain and maintain an Asbestos Inspectors Certification. If required and if you do not currently possess this certification, you will be given six months to obtain necessary certification.
To be successful in this position, a candidate will need the following skills:
• Analytical Thinking/Problem Solving : Uses logical, systematic, sequential approach to address problems or opportunities or manage a situation by drawing on one’s knowledge and experience base and calling on other references and resources as necessary.
• Attention to Detail: Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.
• Compliance: Knowledge of procedures for assessing, evaluating, and monitoring programs or projects for compliance with Federal laws, regulations, and guidance.
• Computer Skills: Uses computers, software applications, databases, and automated systems to accomplish work.
• Environmental Science: Knowledge of the concepts, principles, theories, and methods to protect and improve the quality of the environment and its resources; and to monitor, control, abate, and prevent pollutants.
• Interpersonal Skills: Treats others with courtesy, sensitivity, and respect. Considers and responds appropriately to the needs and feelings of different people in different situations.
Equivalent to those typically gained by:
• Bachelor’s degree in a science discipline and 4-6 years of relevant experience including but not limited to experience in Natural Resource Management, Environmental Science, drinking water systems, Wastewater systems, Solid or hazardous waste management, Sampling Coordination or working with regulations and compliance efforts.
