Job Description

Mitsubishi Electric Research Laboratories is hiring a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Carbon Capture and Sustainability in Cambridge, MA. The role involves conducting innovative research, developing a research agenda, and publishing findings. Candidates need a Ph.D. in a relevant field, strong programming skills, and a good publication record. Mitsubishi Electric Research Laboratories is seeking qualified postdoctoral research candidates who can perform fundamental research in carbon-capture and sustainability. The position provides early career scientists the opportunity to work at an unique, academically-oriented industrial research laboratory. Successful candidates will be expected to define and pursue their own original research agenda in developing novel processes for carbon capture that can be applied in the conjunction with Mitsubishi Electric Corporation's (MELCO's) current product offerings , explore connections to established laboratory initiatives, and publish high impact articles in leading venues.

The expected appointment for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow is 2 years and may lead to subsequent full-time employment at MERL. In any case, the position is more valuable as a stepping stone to a future career in academia or industrial research than a postdoctoral position at a university. The successful candidate is expected to perform leading research in this area, to publish in top conferences and journals, and to develop over the years a fundamental research agenda aimed at impacting the scientific community and MELCO's future technology.

Responsibilities for this position include:
• Conducting innovative and relevant research in carbon capture including developing novel process flowsheets, implementation in popular process simulation environments, control and optimization,
• Developing a research agenda impacting both the scientific community and the future company technology,
• Publishing results in leading technical journals, conferences, and in patent applications,
• Applying the research results to company-relevant R&D projects,
• Collaborating with research staff, academic partners, and mentoring interns, and
• Transferring results and technology to Mitsubishi Electric corporate research laboratories.

Qualifications for this position are:
• A Ph.D. from an internationally-recognized institution in chemical, mechanical engineering, or a related discipline, with a focus on modeling, simulation and optimization,
• A strong publication record, consistent with experience,
• Strong programming skills, in at least some of C/C++, Python, Julia, and/or Matlab, and
• Strong teamwork, communication, listening and teaching skills.
• Interested parties must submit a cover letter and an up to one-page statement of research objectives.

PRINCIPALS ONLY. No phone calls please.
