GEI Consultants is hiring a Staff Geotechnical Engineer for their Portland, ME office. The role involves subsurface explorations, construction management, geotechnical analysis, and preparing technical reports. Candidates should have a BS in Civil Engineering, preferably with geotechnical focus, and 0-3+ years of experience. The position requires fieldwork and some travel. We are seeking a motivated geotechnical professional for the Portland, Maine office. The ideal candidate will work on a wide variety of projects such as bridges, dams, buildings, waterfront structures, and other infrastructure projects. This is an excellent opportunity to learn and gain a wide range of experience.

Essential Responsibilities & Duties

This role includes subsurface explorations, construction observation/management, geotechnical analysis and design, instrumentation installation and interpretation, dam inspections, and technical specification support. Responsibilities include:
• Performing geotechnical field explorations and testing.
• Coordinating lab testing and interpreting lab test data.
• Developing spreadsheets and databases.
• Performing engineering analyses and calculations.
• Preparing technical memos, reports, and construction specifications.
• Observing and documenting construction activities.
• Preparing and modifying drawings using AutoCAD.

Minimum Qualifications
• BS in Civil Engineering with a focus in Geotechnical.
• 0 to 3+ years of experience.
• Excellent written and general communication skills.
• Working knowledge of CAD.
• Able to perform field work without restrictions and in inclement weather.
• Willing and able to travel 25% or more.
• Valid driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications
• MS in Geotechnical Engineering.
• Background in rock mechanics and structural geology, including mapping is a plus.
• Experience in MicroStation, Civil 3D, and/or GIS is a plus.
• 40-hr OSHA/HAZWOPER training is a plus.
