Job Description
RH2 Engineering is seeking a Staff Environmental Scientist/Wetland Ecologist in Bothell, WA. The role involves preparing environmental permits, conducting wetland/stream delineations, and assisting with environmental monitoring and engineering design. Candidates should have a B.S. in a relevant field, 1-4 years of experience, and familiarity with environmental regulations. The position requires fieldwork and travel throughout WA and OR. Strong communication skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office are essential.
RH2 is currently seeking a Staff Environmental Scientist/Wetland Ecologist in our Bothell, WA location. This role desires a detail-oriented, organized, adept, and collaborative team member who will provide exceptional client service, can manage a diverse workload, and produce accurate and professional deliverables.
With your skills you will:
• Assist with environmental permit application/report preparation supporting RH2's offices.
• Assist with wetland/stream delineations, classification of sensitive areas, and field work.
• Assist with water quality and environmental monitoring.
• Assist with environmental engineering design (e.g., compensatory mitigation, culvert replacement, landscaping, stormwater infrastructure, permit-compliant design plans, etc.).
• Assist with preparation of proposals, project scopes-of-work, and other new business and business development tasks.
• Collect GPS field data, and prepare GIS maps and figures for environmental reports.
• Interfacing with clients, project managers, and coworkers, coordination and management of work tasks and schedules.
What you'll bring:
• B.S. in environmental science, environmental engineering, wetland ecology, wildlife biology, aquatic and fisheries science, or similar discipline.
• 1-4 years of professional or internship experience in an Environmental Scientist or like role.
• Familiarity and experience with local, state, and federal environmental regulations and permitting processes.
• Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills; can work individually and in a team setting; critical thinker, problem-solving, and adaptable team player; capacity to work and manage multiple tasks simultaneously; detail-oriented; and effective communicator with multi-varied audience.
• Proficiency in Microsoft office suite and PDF programs.
• Valid Driver's license and reliable transportation.
• Ability and flexibility to travel throughout WA and OR including occasional overnight trips.
• Ability to perform fieldwork that includes heavy lifting, bushwhacking, hiking, long days, standing for long periods of time, and working in and around water, uneven terrain, and inclement weather.
Additional Qualifications:
• Previous consulting and/or government experience.
• Prior education/experience with wetland and stream ecology, soil science, wetland and stream delineations and classification, PNW native plant and invasive species identification, wildlife identification and habitat characterization, mitigation design and/or monitoring, environmental data collection, technical report writing, and environmental permitting.
• Wetland delineation training; familiarity with USACE Regional supplements and Ecology Washington State Wetland Rating System.
• UW Wetland Science and Management certificate, Wetland Delineator certificate, and/or coursework through Ecology's Coastal Training Programs.
• PNW salmonid ecology and fisheries familiarity and/or work experience.
• Bird and wildlife identification, ecology, and survey training.
• Experience with and proficiency in ArcGIS and GPS data collection. AutoCAD experience is a plus.
Compensation counts:
RH2 has an excellent multi-component compensation package built to recognize and financially reward our employees' contributions throughout their career with the company. Individual base compensation will vary within the range of $32.00 to $42.00/hour and will be based on skills, qualifications, and experience as they relate to the requirements for this position. RH2 values our employees' work/life balance and compensates for overtime at 1.5 times the base rate for hours exceeding 40 regular hours in a work week.
