We’re doing this by developing and deploying new technologies to increase the scope and scale of recycled and sustainable materials in the global battery supply chain.

Staff EHS Specialist

The Staff Health & Safety Specialist will be part of our growing global EHS team. The ideal candidate will excel in a fast-paced, collaborative, and dynamic start-up environment. In this role, you will partner with Production, Maintenance, R&D, and Construction teams to provide daily Health & Safety operational support. Responsibilities will include:
• Developing and implementing core EHS policies and programs
• Managing EHS projects and programs at the Charleston, SC campus
• Conducting safety and compliance audits
• Leading investigations into injuries and illnesses and developing corrective actions and preventative measures
• Working with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders to ensure program compliance and promote safety policies and procedures
• Writing and maintaining reports including EHS inspections, Job Safety Analysis, and incident investigation reports
• Providing support to leadership in communicating safety and health concerns to all levels of the organization
• Leading site EHS-related teams (Safety Committee, Ergonomics, Health & Wellness, and Emergency Response)
• Creating and implementing training programs and informational materials as required to convey safety policies and procedures for new hire orientation, ongoing regulatory requirements, and specialized training
• Representing EHS in engineering risk assessments on new projects using HAZID/HAZOP

Desired Qualifications:
• 8+ years of experience as an EHS professional in manufacturing or chemical processing industries
• APS, CSP or CIH certification preferred
• 4-year degree in Safety, Environmental Engineering/Science, Biology, Chemistry or similar sciences is preferred
• Experience writing and developing health and safety programs for large-scale manufacturing, industrial, or chemical operations
• Strong background in OSHA compliance, and independent standards organizations and certification programs (ISO)
• Experience developing and mentoring personnel and working in a team environment
• Background supporting chemical or mechanical manufacturing environments
• Ability to work with multiple teams and stakeholders to ensure program compliance
• Ability to apply independent thinking and judgment to address resolution
• Understands the challenges and pace of working in a startup environment
• Must possess technical knowledge of fall protection systems, electrical safety, confined spaces, industrial hygiene, load handling equipment, scaffolding, lockout/tagout, hazard communication, and incident investigation
• Knowledge of potentially hazardous materials and safe handling practices
• Must be flexible and able to adapt to constant change
• Ability to interact and communicate effectively with all levels of the organization
• Self-motivated, hands-on mindset, with a willingness to contribute at all levels

Physical Requirements:
• Ability to successfully complete a respiratory fit test and respiratory medical evaluation.
• Ability to successfully complete a pre-employment physical including a metals sensitization evaluation and biological metals burden analysis.
• Ability to wear a full-face respirator when required.
• Ability to work for extended periods, including up to a full shift, while wearing Tyvek suits, Powered Air Purifying Respirators (PAPR), and other personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Stand or move within the work area: 50% of the time.
• Must be able to bend/reach/twist/stoop: 10% of the time.
• Must be able to lift up to 15lbs: 10% of the time.
• Must be able to lift over 15lbs:10% of the time.
• Must be able to sit at a work station: 70% of the time.
• Must be able to work and operate a computer terminal: 60% of the time.
• Vision is required to analyze and process work; and to work on computer terminal/machine centers, etc.
• Hearing is essential for safety reasons; and to communicate with employees, supervisors, managers, vendors, suppliers and customers via conversation, group meetings, and/or phone conferences.

Working Conditions:
• Work in diverse environments, both indoors and outdoors, year-round.
• Ability to work in challenging working conditions which may include exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, and temperature extremes, while protected by PPE.
• May require the ability to occasionally work weekends, nights, or on-call shifts.
• Travel required ~4 times per year.

The position is full-time. Compensation will be commensurate with experience.
