HKS is seeking a Sustainable Design Professional to join our team. Supports project teams using a wide range of developing professional skills. Performs basic design and technical tasks requiring application of standard techniques and knowledge of sustainability while working under general supervision. Conducts whole building and component embodied carbon Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) using industry software such as Tally and One Click

Influences and delivers quality sustainable low energy design

Liaisons with stakeholders to develop and advance their sustainability strategies

Identifies sustainability risks and appropriate mitigation measures

Creates models to illustrate plans, processes and designs

Supports internal training for technical staff

Modifies or creates LEED or other rating system-specific documents, applying standard sustainable design techniques, collaborative design computations and procedures as assigned under direction

Performs routine assignments and may have some design responsibility collaborating with other team members as designated

Conducts research on local, regional and global project sustainability context, building materials, sustainable strategies and third-party rating systems (LEED, WELL, etc.)

Prepares draft reports with written and graphic content

Assists with the creation and maintenance of firm-wide content on the HKS intranet

Assists design teams in performance and energy analysis assignments

May attend on-site visits, field reviews and client and/or project meetings as appropriate

Participates in communication with other disciplines, vendors and contractors to incorporate information into project requirements

Participates in team meetings to discuss project issues, design and technical issues and coordination with other disciplines

Demonstrates awareness and appreciation for the firm’s cultural values, including a commitment to quality, innovation, learning and growth

Fosters and maintains a collaborative professional working relationship with the project team

Supports the firm’s principles of ‘design excellence’ in integrating responsible and sustainable design practices with art of design

Financial

Develops understanding of the firm’s basic accounting principles, project budgets and fees

Understands the financial implications of overhead and chargeable time, including accountability to project plan and utilization rate

Participates with civic, community and industry organizations, representing HKS with professionalism and integrity

Graduate degree preferred

Knowledge of embodied carbon calculations including data sources such as EC3 and EPDs

Experience with whole building Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) software

Accredited professional degree in Architecture, Engineering, Environmental Design or related field

Sustainable design accreditation preferred

Knowledge of Revit, Grasshopper, AutoCAD, Navisworks, 3D modeling preferred

Knowledge of Photoshop, Illustrator, Sketchup, InDesign preferred

Proficiency in MS Office Suite preferred

Understanding of sustainability and integrated design guidelines

Knowledge of energy modeling and building analysis

Understanding of building codes and high-performance standards

Strong communication skills in verbal, graphic and written forms

Ability to work in a team and handle multiple projects

Effective at meeting deadlines with quality work
