Job Description
Capital Power is seeking a Sr. Specialist, Environment & Permitting based in Phoenix, AZ. This full-time role involves leading environmental due diligence, managing permitting activities for power generation facilities, and developing strategic plans for regulatory compliance. The candidate should have a Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Environmental Science and over 10 years of experience in power generation and environmental permitting processes across North America.

Your Opportunity
One Permanent Full Time Position.
Based out of the Phoenix office, the Sr. Specialist, Environment & Permitting you will support growth initiatives in the U.S. by leading environmental due diligence and permitting activities. This includes supporting the development, submission and successful delivery of required environmental permitting and approvals for new and existing facilities.
You will contribute to our team by:
• Leading environmental due-diligence activities for acquisitions and development opportunities as assigned, with a primary focus on activities in the U.S.
• Developing strategic plans that allow for timely acquisition of required regulatory permits and environmental approvals.
• Leading the development and submission of environmental applications for new and existing power generation facilities.
• Managing the environmental permitting aspects and environmental risk management of development and construction projects in the U.S. This may include participation and/or support of regulatory hearings and/or interactions with government and regulatory bodies across all jurisdictions.
• Providing environmental support and direction for the construction of renewable and other power generation projects. This includes the preparation of accurate and timely technical reports and regulatory applications, identification and management of project risks, and identification and management of budget requirements.
• Developing and implementing integration plans for new acquisitions or developments.
• Proactively developing and managing strong collaborative relationships with external regulators, stakeholders and agencies.
• Overseeing and approving the selection of external consultants including the delivery of technical reports, performance assessment and recommendations required for applications, licenses and approvals within appropriate timelines.
• Supporting the development and continual improvement of Capital Power's environmental management systems.
What you will bring to the role:
Education:
• Undergraduate / Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, or equivalent
Experience
• 10+ years of relevant experience with exposure to power generation.
• Understanding of environmental permitting processes for both thermal and renewable power projects in various jurisdictions across North America.
• Understanding of environmental policy, environmental aspects, and environmental management systems.
• Related experience with exposure to industrial facilities.
• Proficient in environmental law and regulation, and able to monitor and track relevant updates and changes as they relate to power generating facilities and projects.
• General understanding of power generation operations and associated environmental risks.
Technical Skills
• Ability to write and review technical reports including details with respect to environmental laws, regulations and environmental risks.
• Strong project management skills demonstrating ability to communicate, collaborate, and lead effectively in a cross-functional project team.
• Process management: the ability to develop, implement and manage processes and procedures with respect to the gathering, analysis and dissemination of key environmental metrics and data.
• Strong communication and presentation skills.
Working Conditions
• Hybrid Office/Work from home position, with travel to project sites/facilities/offices as required.
• Some short notice travel to project sites, facilities and offices across North America, as required.
