Old Dominion Freight Line is seeking a Sr. Manager - Fleet Planning and Sustainability in Thomasville, NC. The role involves managing lifecycle costs for a large fleet, developing budget plans, overseeing asset acquisition, and ensuring regulatory compliance. This position will manage lifecycle costs for a fleet of over 60,000 pieces of rolling stock and nearly 5,000 powered industrial equipment assets. This includes replacement planning, capital management, utilization, redeployment and supplier relationships to include purchasing and negotiations. This position utilizes data-driven decision-making by implementing a total cost of ownership structure to determine optimum asset management practices. Define strategy for Fleet Sustainability, including strategy, regulatory compliance, deployment, infrastructure and utility components. Will determine location strategy, operational requirements, site selection and manage vendor partners for clean energy transition.

Primary Responsibilities
• Analyze and determine fleet assets to be replaced annually based on vehicle performance and cost
• Develop, prevent and oversee annual capital budget for all fleet assets
• Manage the asset acquisition and disposal processes to ensure seamless transition into active service
• Create, nurture, and expand relationships with OEM and aftermarket equipment, parts and services suppliers
• Develop negotiation strategies and manage the procurement of fleet and warehouse equipment assets
• Oversee the delivery schedule and retirement process to include reserving build slots, determining fleet allocation to service centers, processing retirement assets and monitoring the dates associated with asset deliveries
• Support license and registration process to ensure minimal downtime for delivered assets and regulatory requirements of retires assets
• Develop TCO models and asset analytics to make informed decisions related to equipment specifications
• Analyze, filter and recommend specification changes or improvements to manage cost and performance of asset life
• Develop and manage transition and management of alternative fuel vehicle strategies
• Responsible for Fleet Sustainability in total for infrastructure, charging technology, power requirements and site selection
• Ensures compliance with all regulations and identifies and manages grant funding and incentive programs

Job Qualifications

Education:
• Bachelor’s degree or 8+ years of experience managing fleet asset, capital budgets and/or Sustainability

Experience:
• 8+ years of fleet management experience in a transportation company
• 5+ years of Sustainability experience
• Understanding of fleet concepts related to lifecycle planning using analytics
• Strong financial acumen and experience with capital planning processes
• Strong phone and verbal communication skills along with active listening skills
• Ability to deal with different types of personalities and effectively handle high-stress situations in a calm manner
• Ability to multi-task, set priorities and manage time effectively
• Proven negotiation abilities
• Proficient in English; good knowledge of additional languages desired
• Proficiency with Office programs, such as Outlook, Excel, and Word
