SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE OF ROLE:

Contribute to the environmental studies strategies for Nevada Projects, assessment and mitigation of environmental impacts, support biodiversity conservation efforts, and assist in the development of strategies to achieve compliance with local, state, and federal environmental regulations. This role will require frequent collaboration with interdisciplinary teams and stakeholders, including governmental agencies and community groups, to ensure that environmental initiatives are grounded in sound scientific practices.

Role accountabilities:
• Contractor Oversight and Compliance: Oversee and provide scientific guidance to onsite and offsite contractors, ensuring adherence to health and safety protocols, data collection methodologies, and compliance with environmental regulations. Provide field audit reports to the Environmental Studies Manager or other relevant supervisors.
• Data Analysis and Reporting: Collect, analyze, and interpret environmental data, identifying trends and potential gaps. Use data to guide future studies and ensure projects align with regulatory requirements and scientific best practices.
• Environmental Study Planning: Assist in the design and execution of environmental studies in collaboration with regulatory agencies, utilizing scientific methods to assess environmental impacts and support biodiversity conservation goals.
• Stakeholder Engagement: Represent AngloGold Ashanti in community meetings and scientific discussions with regulatory bodies, using data-driven insights to foster relationships with stakeholders and inform decision-making processes.
• Scientific Reporting and Documentation: Prepare comprehensive reports on environmental study progress, including data interpretation, to support permitting processes and regulatory submissions. Contribute to the development of technical documents required for environmental permitting.
• Permitted Biologist for Desert Tortoise Management: Serve as the designated biologist for post-mine construction handling of the desert tortoise, ensuring all actions comply with the Endangered Species Act (ESA) and relevant environmental legislation.
• Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs): Contribute to the development and refinement of SOPs for environmental data collection, regulatory compliance, and field safety protocols.
• Regulatory Expertise: Maintain an in-depth understanding of relevant state and federal environmental legislation, including the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), Clean Water Act, and the Endangered Species Act. Ensure all activities comply with evolving environmental standards and scientific guidelines.
• Collaboration: Ability to engage with and build positive, collaborative relationships with local stakeholders to support and drive project outcomes. Engage with cross-functional teams, including environmental scientists, geologists, and regulatory specialists, to foster a collaborative approach to environmental problem-solving and project execution.

Technical Competencies:
• Experience in managing field- and office-based environmental projects and tasks, including ecological studies, habitat restoration, and/or conservation initiatives.
• Previous experience in the mining industry related to environmental compliance and sustainable practices.
• Previous biological fieldwork experience, including ability to obtain permit for handling desert tortoise, aquatic and terrestrial flora and fauna surveys, and data analysis and technical reporting for biological studies.

Leadership Competencies:
• Experience leading project teams, particularly in the field, and management of subcontractors.
• Demonstrated ability to support and foster team collaboration.
• Exceptional communication skills, ability to professionally communicate with various internal work groups and external stakeholders.
• A strong work ethic and proven commitment to positive project outcomes through collaboration.

EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s or advanced degree in biology, ecology, environmental science, or a closely related field, with a strong emphasis on environmental management and solutions in the mining sector.
• Three (3) to Five (5) years of direct experience in environmental engineering, with Three (3) or more years’ experience in a mining environment.

• Robust foundation in biological sciences, environmental studies, and regulatory compliance, with a focus on applying scientific principles to environmental management.
• Extensive critical thinking and problem-solving skills with a drive to identify and solve solutions.
• Flexibility and agility to meet the expectations of managers and coworkers.
• A strong commitment to enhancing the environmental setting of projects within the context of resource extraction, best management practices, and industry/company standards.
• A strong commitment to industry/company Health & Safety practices

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are typically 4/10 schedule 6:00am to 4pm or as directed by the supervisor to include travel to and from the Beatty, Nevada site. Evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. As per operational requirements.

COMPENSATION:

Base Salary Range $80,000 - $100,000
