Job Description

American Conservation Experience is seeking Southwest Conservation Crew Members in Flagstaff, AZ, for a 24-week term of service focused on conservation projects like ecological restoration and trail maintenance. Members will gain practical skills, work in teams, and enjoy outdoor activities during their time off. Compensation includes a living allowance, education award, food, and housing. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents and able to work outdoors.
About the position

American Conservation Experience, a non-profit conservation corps with a divisional branch in Flagstaff, Arizona, is looking for members to come join our team of young adults serving on meaningful conservation projects throughout Arizona. This opportunity is intended for those looking to learn valuable skills for their career while immersed in a community of like-minded young professionals from around the country. Members typically serve for 24 weeks on projects including ecological restoration, habitat improvement, and trail maintenance and construction, all while completing a term of AmeriCorps service. While serving, members typically have 3-6 days off between each project to enjoy Arizona's abundant beauty and recreational opportunities with their friends and colleagues. Responsibilities
• Serve in professionally supervised teams on conservation projects
,
• Learn practical field skills and develop confidence as emerging leaders
,
• Participate in trail construction and maintenance
,
• Engage in invasive species removal
,
• Assist in habitat restoration
,
• Perform dry and wet stone masonry
,
• Participate in reforestation efforts
,
• Conduct forest thinning
,
• Identify and survey plants
,
• Engage in fencing activities
,
• Contribute to historical and cultural preservation

Requirements
• U.S. Citizen or permanent resident
,
• Able and willing to work in a group
,
• Able and willing to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
,
• Capable of hiking moderate distances in somewhat rough terrain
,
• Willingness to undergo and pass the required three-part federal criminal history check

Nice-to-haves
• Experience in hiking and navigation in steep terrain
,
• Strong desire to enter the conservation field as a natural resource professional
,
• Experience or interest in volunteering in local communities
