Solar Project Engineer

Pepper Construction is seeking a Solar Project Engineer in Barrington, IL. The role involves managing project documentation, ensuring coordination between stakeholders, monitoring construction quality, and assisting in budget management. Candidates should have a Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or related experience, with 2+ years in solar or renewable energy. The position requires approximately 50% travel to project sites in the Midwest.
Pepper Energy is currently seeking an experienced Project Engineer for our Solar Team. The ideal candidate will interact with a variety of staff at all levels while remaining flexible, proactive and efficient with a high level of professionalism. The Project Engineer will review, provide analysis, management, and supporting the field-based team with resolution of all coordination issues.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Manage all document control aspects of the project – engineering sets, RFI’s, Submittals, Quality assurance, non-conformance logs and closeout documents and additional contractual obligations as directed.
• Ensure seamless coordination between utility company and project key stakeholders – owner, developer, Pepper and MV contractor to achieve project COD.
• Manage pay application approval process in accordance with the contractual terms including review and recommendation of change order approvals.
• Monitor construction quality to ensure that all work is installed in accordance with the plan’s specifications, QA/QC requirements, code requirements, contract requirements and good construction practices.
• Assist the Project Manager in Developing and presenting the projects construction budget. Work with internal and external stakeholders to identify cost reduction opportunities and track cost performance against budget. Produce daily, weekly and monthly reports for internal and external customers.
• Coordinate the production of weekly/monthly project progress reports and inform senior management on the project status.
• Manage the Project Closure and the Close Out process with the relevant lessons learned.

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or equivalent demonstrated experience.
• 2+ years of Engineering and Construction experience in Solar, Power Generation or large Renewable Energy facilities.
• Detail orientation sufficient to organize and effectively manage multiple tasks.
• Strong teamwork orientation, initiative, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Experience managing multiple self-perform trades.
• Working Knowledge of MS Word, Excel, SharePoint, Asta Scheduling and BlueBeam, AutoCAD, Google Earth software.
• Position requires travel to support projects throughout the Midwest approximately 50% of the time.
