Job Description
The Sioux County Conservation Board (SCCB) and Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) are seeking a dedicated and experienced individual to join our team as a Cooperative Habitat Technician (CHT) at SCCB Oak Grove Station of the Great Lakes Big Sioux Sub-Unit (GLBSS). This position will be under the supervision of the Sioux County Board of Directors with financial and supervisory support from the DNR. The CHT will work with SCCB, DNR, and Pheasants Forever staff primarily in Sioux and Lyon Counties and secondarily in Plymouth, O’Brien, and Osceola Counties. The role involves project administration, habitat management, facility development and maintenance, equipment operation, wildlife population management, and conservation education.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Natural Resource Management, Environmental Science, or a related field is required.
• Previous experience in project administration, habitat management, and facility/equipment maintenance is preferred.
• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
• Willingness to obtain necessary certifications and training for job duties.
Essential Functions
• Work as part of a small team to manage land and supervise staff.
• Communicate courteously with the public.
• Perform strenuous work under varied weather conditions.
• Apply wildlife management principles and adhere to applicable laws and regulations.
• Operate and maintain hand tools, motor vehicles, heavy equipment, and perform minor carpentry, electrical, and plumbing tasks.
• Utilize computer programs including Microsoft, Adobe, and ESRI GIS software.
• Maintain a high standard of ethical conduct, teamwork, and customer service.
• Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and obtain additional certifications (CDL, Pesticide License, CPR/First Aid, Chainsaw Safety, and Firefighter Training) as required.
Salary & Benefits: Annual salary of $42,500 with performance raises. Benefits include IPERS, health and dental insurance, vacation and sick leave, and paid holidays. This is a limited term position with funding guaranteed through June 30, 2027, with the potential for continuation.
