Responsibilities

What You Will Do:

Gannett Fleming TranSystems is seeking a Water Resources Engineer in Wilmington, Raleigh or Asheville, NC. The water resources team is part of our larger transportation design team. Our transportation team works on a wide variety of roadway projects including new location, widening and modernization of existing facilities, bridge and culvert replacement, intersection and interchange design, bike and pedestrian facilities, greenways, and sidewalk improvements. In addition to transportation projects, the water resources group supports other departments engaging in planning, environmental, and land development design, particularly when floodplain management expertise is needed. These projects will offer the selected candidate an excellent career path to broaden their professional experience. The selected candidate will be working in a collaborative environment with planners, engineers, designers, traffic professionals, surveyors, and structure design staff to develop design plans for a wide variety of projects.

What you’ll be challenged to do:

This is an excellent career opportunity for an experienced, motivated Water Resources Engineer who thrives in a collaborative team environment. The role highlights a customer-focused mindset and a passion for delivering exceptional quality and results on every project.

In this capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:
• Serve as a Water Resources Engineer for transportation, planning, and land development projects.
• Participate in field reconnaissance activities to document existing conditions for project design development.
• Prepare bridge and culvert hydraulic design plans and calculations using MicroStation, GeoPak, OpenRoads Designer (ORD), and HEC-RAS design software.
• Develop drainage and erosion control plans and calculations for transportation projects using MicroStation, GeoPak, and ORD software.
• Prepare design documents and summary reports for submittal to various owners and agencies for technical review.
• Participate in project design and review meetings as necessary.
• Communicate internally and externally with project team members, client representatives, and permitting agencies.
• Participate in the development of the project/task work plans.

Qualifications

What you bring to our firm:
• Registration as a NC PE.
• NCDOT Level III Design of Erosion and Sediment Control Plans Certification.
• Experience with hydraulic design for NCDOT.
• Actively engages multiple perspectives when solving problems, seeks to learn from peers, and encourages reciprocal learning among team members.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Must be proficient in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, etc.)
• Must be detail oriented and possess excellent organizational skills.
• Must be able to handle multiple tasks as assigned.
• Must communicate well verbally and in writing with others.
• Must be able to work independently and manage time wisely.
• MicroStation, GeoPak, ORD, and HEC-RAS software skills required.

Working Conditions:
• Work in indoor office environment 80% of the time.
• Work in outdoor environment 20% of the time, including rural, urban, roadside, and wooded locations as needed.
• Moderate noise level encountered indoors and outdoors.
• Travel via automobile, including overnight on occasion as needed.

Compensation:

The range for this position is salary range is $70,350-$123,106.50. Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location.
