Department Summary:

MITRE Engenuity is a non-for-profit tech foundation created by the MITRE Corporation to undertake complex challenges that neither government nor industry can solve on their own.

We are seeking Sr. Principal, Semiconductor Analyst, who will join a growing team that is forming the execution plan for the development and acceleration of U.S. leadership for the Semiconductor industry, supporting Department of Commerce/NIST, and the CHIPS program. The candidate is expected to have a good understanding of the global semiconductor industry, which is composed of a complex ecosystem of supply chains, chip fabrication facilities, fabless companies, designers and tool and equipment manufacturers making products that feed numerous industries including communications, computing, healthcare, automotive and defense, among others. The candidate will contribute to all aspects of analysis and proposals where the MITRE Engenuity team is working on business models, policies, and technologies, and to recommend market and strategic initiatives to support US economic success and growth in the semiconductor industry.

The Sr. Principal, Semiconductor Analyst thinks like an entrepreneur with skills at identifying opportunities and finding product-market fit while being mission driven to achieve MITRE’s goals public good. The candidate should have at least years of experience in research, development, strategic/technical business marketing, applications, or business operations in semiconductors and a graduate degree.

The work will be located in our McLean, Virginia office and at our customer site in Washington, DC.

Roles and Responsibilities:
• Serve as a subject matter expert on semiconductor industry with the ability to analyze industry best practices and provide recommendations on one or more of the following areas: design, packaging, manufacturing.
• Analyze and/or develop business plans and investment priorities/roadmaps of the future needs of semiconductor companies and organizations especially related to emerging and critical technologies in semiconductor technologies.
• Discover gaps and choke points in semiconductor technologies and supply chain and supporting proposals and strategy to close gaps.
• Develop inputs for creation of a strategic map of key stakeholders in the semiconductor ecosystem and their role, value creation and contributions.
• Lead and set thought leadership for working groups in the Semiconductor Alliance in two or more areas: advanced packaging and chiplets, EDA and design enablement, IP management, workforce development, environmental sustainability, or deep tech innovation.
• Communicate and interface with a wide team of external stakeholders (including Fortune 500’s, small businesses, universities, government representatives, and startups) on developing a semiconductor technical roadmap.
• Participate as speaker, panelist, moderator or facilitator at external facing events, podcasts, and social media.
• Create presentations and financial projections that clearly convey the results, findings, and recommendations.

Minimum Qualifications:
• MS in a scientific or engineering discipline with at least 10 years of directly applicable experience in technology development, strategic marketing, product management, or business strategy within the semiconductor industry value chain.
• Proven ability to input as part of a market or strategy research questions, supporting a business strategy, and validating technical roadmaps and possible risks.
• A good understanding of semiconductor trends and technologies with the ability to provide thought leadership and technical assessment to internal and external stakeholders.
• Ability to clearly articulate (at a strategic level) the process of conceptualizing, designing, manufacturing, packaging, and testing a chip.
• Ability to create and execute work plans, as well as to create metrics to evaluate success / failure of new business ideas and proposals.
• A network in the semiconductor community
• Highly effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills; demonstrated ability to interact at all corporate levels effectively and comfortably.

Preferred Qualifications:
• PhD and 5+ years in technical leadership roles developing designs, tools, materials, or processing capabilities for semiconductors.
• MBA or management level experience in business leadership role
• Experience with novel approaches to design, materials, packaging in semiconductor industry
• Experience in a technology, corporate strategy or business development group at a startup or a large corporation or private/venture capital organization.
• Demonstrable experience participating in a complex, high-impact, and industry-changing deep tech innovation projects.
• Experience working as a consultant or corporate analyst, with demonstrated success in participating in market analyses and delivering on goals and milestones.
• Experience / familiarity in one or more of the MITRE focus areas, in addition to semiconductors and microelectronics: AI, Quantum, cybersecurity, 5G, and green/sustainable technology.
• The ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI clearance.
