ICF International is hiring a Senior Tribal and Rural Clean Energy Expert to assist local communities and Native American Tribes in developing sustainable clean energy systems. Responsibilities include providing technical assistance, conducting energy analyses, and supporting renewable energy projects. The position can be remote for exceptional candidates, requiring a strong engineering background and experience with energy conservation measures.
About the position

ICF is seeking a Senior Tribal and Rural Clean Energy Expert to work with local communities and Native American Tribes across the country, helping them develop sustainable clean energy systems that save energy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. This position can be based in our Reston, VA headquarters in a hybrid work environment or can be remote for exceptional candidates. The successful candidate will provide technical assistance to implement energy efficiency conservation measures and sustainable renewable energy systems, such as community-scale solar, wind, and geothermal projects. The role involves supporting the implementation of U.S. government technical assistance programs aimed at driving energy efficiency and emissions reductions nationwide. In this role, you will be responsible for providing technical assistance to local communities and Native American Tribes, assisting in the implementation of renewable energy systems and energy conservation measures. You will conduct independent engineering technical reviews of energy projects, perform energy savings and economic analyses of community energy projects, and assist in developing and designing innovative energy programs. Additionally, you will conduct market research and analysis of energy efficiency, electrification, renewable energy, and decarbonization technologies, programs, and policies. Remote desktop building system audits and assessments will also be part of your responsibilities, along with co-authoring reports, white papers, and marketing materials. You will manage and support technical studies that evaluate energy impacts and benefits, prepare, review, update, and present technical reports, and develop, update, and maintain plans, standard operating procedures, and other project documentation. This position requires a strong background in engineering and a passion for working with communities to implement sustainable energy solutions.

• Co-authoring reports and other client deliverables, white papers, and marketing pieces.

• Managing and supporting technical studies that evaluate energy impacts and benefits.

• Preparing, reviewing, updating, and presenting technical reports.

• Developing, updating, and maintaining plans, standard operating procedures, and other project documentation.

Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in engineering (e.g., Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Environmental Engineering) or a related discipline (e.g., economics, political science, management).

• 8+ years of relevant experience.
,
• On-the-ground experience working with Tribes to implement renewable energy systems and/or energy conservation measures.
,
• Experience working with rural communities to implement renewable energy systems and/or energy conservation measures.
,
• Knowledge of evaluation, measurement, and verification of energy efficiency.
,
• Understanding of building science and building energy savings calculations.
,
• Strong quantitative and analytical skills.
,
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
,
• Highly developed interpersonal skills and self-motivation.
,
• Proficient computer skills (e.g., the suite of Microsoft applications).
,
• Ability to prioritize and multi-task, and work under strict deadlines.
,
• Knowledge of distributed onsite energy resources (e.g., renewables, energy storage).

Nice-to-haves
• Master's degree in a related discipline.

• Related professional credentials (e.g., PE, CEM, LEED).
,
• Experience with project management, business development, and/or client development.
,
• Experience with Energy Management Systems (e.g., ISO 50001).

• Experience with state & local and/or federal commercial and industrial energy programs.

• Experience with commercial energy-efficient applications.
,
• Experience with energy modeling tools and platforms (e.g., OpenStudio, EnergyPlus).

• Experience with advanced programming and data analytics skills.
,
• Substantial professional and/or lived experience with Tribal communities.

• Knowledge of energy and climate policy and regulation.
,
• Knowledge of building design and construction methods, building codes and standards, mechanical systems, and related energy use in construction.

• Ability to read and interpret construction documents.
,
• Knowledge of sustainable building practices and technologies.
