Job Description
Matrix Renewables is seeking a Senior Transmission Engineer to support the development and interconnection of renewable energy projects in the US, primarily solar and energy storage. Responsibilities include performing transmission studies, managing interconnection applications, and supporting project construction. The role requires a Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering and at least 5 years of relevant experience. The position is remote, with a preference for candidates in Texas.

The Role
The Transmission Senior Engineer is primarily responsible for supporting the development and interconnection of solar, BESS, datacenter and green hydrogen projects in the US. The candidate will perform various types of transmission studies to help manage the current interconnection queues and facilitate the greenfield development. The candidate will support the Operations Team during project construction and operational phases as needed.
Key activities and responsibilities
Perform power system modeling and power flow studies to assess the electric interconnection viability of renewable projects and support the Development Team for greenfield projects.
Perform short circuit, transient stability and electromagnetic transient studies as needed.
Support Interconnection application package preparation in various RTOs (ERCOT, MISO, CAISO, PJM, SPP) and vertically integrated markets (WECC, SERC, etc.).
Review the study reports from ISOs/TSPs and provide a strategy to the Development team for decision-making.
Evaluate interconnection tariffs, costs, timelines, queues, and processes for a variety of markets in the US.
Track changes to transmission planning tariffs and key transmission upgrades in target markets in the US.
Support the tracking of technical engineering milestones under the Generation Interconnection Agreement.
Provide technical support and coordination to the Operations, Development, Finance and M&A teams throughout the full cycle of projects.
Engage and manage third party consultants for interconnection analysis as required.
Support EPC Team in the construction, and commissioning of new power plants to meet the requirements of RTOs/utilities.
Support asset management team for operational plants.
Attend site visits and team meetings with internal & external teams.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. A master’s or PhD degree in Electrical Engineering is a plus.
A minimum of 5 years of experience doing transmission and interconnection studies in ISOs, utilities, consulting firms or renewable developers.
Working knowledge of PSS/E, PSLF and TARA. PSCAD are required. PROMOD or UPLAN experience is a plus.
Knowledge of interconnection process in the regulated and deregulated power markets.
Knowledge of renewable power plant equipment and design.
Experience in CAISO and WECC is required. Experience in other regions (ERCOT, MISO, SPP, PJM) is a plus.
PE license is preferred.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and interface with cross-functional groups at all levels of the organization.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Willingness to travel as needed.
