Senior Sustainability Specialist - Microclimate
Dubai, UAE
Parsons is looking for an amazingly talented Senior Microclimate Specialist to join our team! This role involves a combination of environmental science, engineering, and urban planning to create comfortable and sustainable outdoor spaces. You will get to contribute to the strategies for the delivery of challenging high-quality infrastructure and masterplan projects.
What You'll Be Doing:
• Conduct thermal comfort assessments for outdoor environments using various tools and methodologies.
• Analyze microclimatic data, including temperature, humidity, wind speed, and solar radiation.
• Develop and implement strategies to improve thermal comfort in outdoor spaces.
• Collaborate with urban planners, master plan architects, and landscape designers to integrate thermal comfort solutions into project designs.
• Use simulation software to model and predict thermal comfort outcomes.
• Prepare detailed reports and presentations for clients, summarizing findings and recommendations.
• Stay updated with the latest research and advancements in the field of outdoor thermal comfort.
• Participate in site visits to assess current conditions and monitor the implementation of comfort strategies.
• Provide expert advice on materials, shading devices, vegetation, and other elements that influence outdoor thermal comfort.
• Be part of multidisciplinary project teams and manage complex projects which require sustainability input and environmental compliance, from conception to completion.
• Manage and present to the clients during design workshops and meetings.
• Be curious and suggest alternative solutions and innovative ideas for each project’s vision.
• Develop technical reports and studies for sustainability certification and environmental documentation as part of project deliverables.
• Mentor, support, overview and review the junior members inputs and deliverables.
• Be experienced with the bidding process to win new work.
• Expected to work on your own, using your own initiative with support as and when necessary.
What Required Skills You'll Bring:
• Bachelor’s degree or above in architecture, engineering, planning, or related natural sciences field.
• Work experience of minimum 7 years in an international engineering/design/project management/sustainability consultancy.
• Strong understanding on microclimate and outdoor thermal comfort principles and solutions.
• Knowledge of thermal comfort indices (e.g., PMV, PET, UTCI).
• Ability to interpret and analyze climatic data.
• Proficiency in simulation and modeling software (e.g., Autodesk Forma, CFD tools).
• Experience with GIS and data analysis tools is a plus.
• Good knowledge on the latest trends on the sustainability field and finding ways to implement them synergistically.
• Experience in coordinating with diverse individuals and teams including client, consultant, contractor, design, and construction members to enable achievement of outdoor thermal comfort objectives and targets.
• Attention to detail and ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
• Analytical skills, detail oriented, well-organized, and able to work independently as well as part of a team, on multiple large-scale projects in parallel.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
What Desired Skills You'll Bring:
• Master’s / PhD degree in architecture, engineering, planning, or related natural sciences field.
• Estidama PCRS PQP and/or LEED AP and/or BREEAM AP accreditation (additional credentials a plus).
• Documented participation in the preparation of a third-party sustainability certification application (e.g., LEED, WELL, Mostadam, Envision, Estidama).
