The Environment Protection Authority Victoria (EPA) is hiring a Senior Health Scientist for a fixed-term, full-time role in Macleod, Australia, until January 2026. The position involves delivering environmental public health advice and conducting health risk assessments related to pollution and waste for major infrastructure projects. About the role:

You will support EPA to meet its statutory responsibilities related to environmental public health, aligned to EPA’s strategic priorities to prevent harm to Victorian communities and the environment from pollution and waste. This advice will focus on health risk assessments that will help inform decisions for Victorian major infrastructure projects.

In this role you will:
• Deliver environmental public health advice relevant to pollution and waste, to inform regulatory and strategic decisions about major infrastructure projects, ensuing an understanding of potential environmental impacts of different options.
• Provide information on current and future environmental public health risks, issues, and opportunities that the EPA needs to consider in undertaking its activities and working with partners.
• Participate in the response to environmental and public health emergencies and incidents.
• Represent the EPA positively in engaging with the community and duty holders to build knowledge and awareness of the laws that protect our environment and human health from pollution and waste, and the role of EPA as Victoria’s independent environmental regulator.

Skills and experience:
• A relevant tertiary degree in public health, health science, environmental science, or other related discipline.
• Experience and understanding of health risk assessments and toxicology, preferably related to contaminated land from large infrastructure projects.
• Proven ability to carry out a health risk assessments and contaminated land assessments relevant to infrastructure projects.
• Demonstrated experience and knowledge of the environmental public health sector, regulatory frameworks, and current and emerging issues in environmental public health.
• Experience in assessing environmental public health data and impacts and proposing appropriate public health management solutions, preferably within Government.
