Job Description

Aaranyak is seeking a Senior Project Officer for its Environment Education and Capacity Building Division in Guwahati, Assam. Aaranyak is a registered society working in the field of biodiversity conservation in North East India since 1989. Its strength lies in applied research in biological and social field and its thrust area of work is the North Eastern India and Eastern Himalayas.

Location: Guwahati and field work in different field sites in Assam

Job Responsibilities:

Key responsibilities of this position are:
• planning, managing, monitoring, coordinating, documentation and reporting, stakeholder engagement and timely execution of activities of assigned project.
• To Assist the division’s head of Environment Education & Capacity Building Division in management and administration of project activities of the division.
• Prepare execution plan of all activities for each quarter, review monthly and execute as scheduled and mandated under the supervision of division’s head.
• To undertake documentation including development of IEC materials as well as develop and implement conservation education strategy, module, training course etc.
• Liaise and engage with various government departments, media and other key stakeholders and implement project activities.

Qualification:
• Master’s degree in Life science, Ecology & Environmental science, Anthropology. Other may also apply. (Understanding about social & ecological research, environmental management, biodiversity conservation, social behaviour change communication and scientific temperament requires).
• Good knowledge on biodiversity of northeast India.
• Proficiency in listening, speaking, writing in Assamese, English & Hindi.

Desired experience:
• Minimum 2-3 years of experience in the field of environment/biodiversity conservation and eco-restoration.
• Working with community, youths, NGOs/CBOs, school/college students/teachers, PRIs on environmental issues.
• Ability to execute projects, research and education, socio-economic analysis, science communication, environmental impact assessment, biodiversity mapping. Understanding of environmental monitoring and analysis.
• Impact evaluation as well as qualitative and quantitative analytical skills. Also, ability to develop new processes and approaches.
• Excellent communication (Written and vocabulary) skill in English and Assamese.
• Excellent knowledge of computers (MS Office), Google Earth and fair knowledge of data analysis tools.
• Ready to travel extensively across our workplaces.
• Must be physically fit and able to live with basic amenities in remote areas.
• Should be able to work independently would lead a small team of 2-3 persons.
• Driving skills of two-wheeler or 4-wheeler would be an added advantage.
• Preferred age group: Below 35

Honorarium: Negotiable with working knowledge, experience and qualification

Type of contract: Annual (Initial term is for one year with possibility of long-term engagement based on the annual performance appraisal)
