Description
Role purpose
You will lead the sale of high-quality carbon credits to South African and international buyers. You will originate and close deals for both the South African Carbon Tax offsets market and the voluntary carbon market. You will own the full commercial process, from prospecting to contract signature, and help shape our go-to-market approach.
Key Responsibilities
• Build and manage a qualified pipeline of carbon credit buyers in South Africa and internationally.
• Lead carbon credit sales for SA Carbon Tax offset use, including advising buyers on: offset eligibility, limits, documentation, evidence requirements, and procurement processes.
• Sell credits into the voluntary market, matching buyers to suitable projects, vintages, and standards.
• Lead buyer outreach: prospecting, meetings, proposals, and negotiation.
• Structure and close spot trades and offtake agreements, working with internal legal and finance.
• Develop pricing strategies and deal terms, informed by market intelligence and project constraints.
• Assist in preparing sales materials: teasers, buyer packs, pricing sheets, term summaries, and contract handover notes.
• Maintain disciplined pipeline tracking and forecasting (CRM use is essential).
• Coordinate with project teams to confirm credit availability and delivery schedules.
• Respond to buyer due diligence queries (methodology, MRV, safeguards, registry processes).
• Build partnerships with brokers, platforms, and intermediaries where this accelerates sales.
• Represent Anthesis at relevant market forums and events to generate demand.
• Occasional travel locally and internationally.
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
• Master’s degree (e.g., MBA, MPhil, MSc, MCom, or equivalent relevant Master’s).
• Proven working knowledge of South Africa’s Carbon Tax and offsets (practical buyer-facing competence, not theoretical awareness).
• 3+ years’ experience in carbon markets, climate finance, environmental markets, or related commercial roles with corporate clients.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including proposal writing and buyer-facing presentations.
• Commercial track record required: candidates must show evidence of commercial outcomes (e.g., contracts negotiated, revenue influenced/closed, buyer pipeline owned, or equivalent deal accountability).
Skills and attributes
• Strong commercial judgement: pricing, negotiation, and deal structuring.
• Confident engaging senior stakeholders (CFO, sustainability, tax, procurement).
• Highly organised, process-driven, and comfortable with CRM and reporting.
• Ability to translate technical carbon concepts into plain language.
Job Benefits
• Work within a highly motivated team in an innovative and rapidly growing global company
• Opportunity to have a direct impact and be a key part of the growth and development of the business and the team
• Work solely on projects that have an impact on the sustainability and climate change goals/challenges for clients
• Opportunity to work with, collaborate with and learn from sustainability SME’s who are passionate about the work they do and the impact Anthesis can have
• Exposure to a wide range of clients and projects on a global basis
• Competitive salary in line with education, experience and skills
• An opportunity to participate in the Anthesis Employee Participation Plan (EPP), an industry-pioneering employee incentive plan that allows all employees to be rewarded for the growth in the equity value of Anthesis.
• Cooperative, supportive and open working atmosphere.
