Senior Portfolio Manager - Energy Trading

Smart4 Energy is seeking a Senior Portfolio Manager for its Electricity Trading team in Cape Town. The role involves managing a diverse energy portfolio, leading analytics for pricing strategies, negotiating energy supply agreements, and mentoring a team of analysts. Candidates should have at least 5 years of experience in financial and technical analytics, with a strong understanding of South Africa's energy market. This is a full-time position based in Cape Town.
We are looking for a Senior Portfolio Manager to join an Electricity Trading team in Cape Town. This is a mission-critical role where you will use your analytical expertise to balance risk across a diverse customer portfolio and lead the pricing and implementation of energy supply agreements.

Key Responsibilities
• Portfolio Strategy: Manage and optimize the energy portfolio, balancing risk across multiple customers in a rapidly evolving market.
• Advanced Analytics: Lead both financial and technical analytics to drive pricing strategies and portfolio performance insights.
• Negotiation & Implementation: Drive the pricing, negotiation, and execution of energy supply agreements.
• Team Leadership: Manage and mentor a team of analysts, ensuring high-quality output and professional development.
• Market Insight: Stay ahead of South Africa’s commercial and industrial (C&I) energy market trends and regulatory shifts.
• System Development: Guide the development of data systems to extract analytical insights from large datasets.

Requirements
• Experience: * At least 5 years of experience in financial and technical analytics (ideally in the energy sector).
• At least 2 years of experience in a management or leadership role overseeing other analysts.
• Expertise: Proven track record in the pricing and negotiation of energy supply agreements.
• Knowledge: Comprehensive understanding of South Africa’s C&I energy market and regulatory environment.
• Advantageous: Experience in a trading environment or working specifically with portfolio risk management.
• Skills: Ability to solve complex problems from first principles, high tolerance for ambiguity, and excellent communication skills for engaging senior stakeholders.
