The Environmental Assessment and Stewardship branch has an exciting opportunity in the Waste Stewardship and Recycling Unit. The unit is responsible for evaluation and oversight of waste stewardship and recycling programs in an effort to reduce and avoid waste generation and accumulation. The unit leads the implementation of Saskatchewan’s Solid Waste Management Strategy, develops and analyzes regulations and policy, leads waste minimization strategies and initiatives, and provides advice on waste stewardship programs.

The opportunity that is available is for a Senior Policy Analyst – Waste Stewardship. We are seeking a confident, proactive, detail-oriented individual with analytical expertise who is diplomatic in their approach to resolving issues.

Reporting to the Manager of Waste Stewardship and Recycling, this position will:
• Provide advice and services to support senior and executive management on a range of waste stewardship and recycling program and policy issues;
• Consult and engage with internal and external stakeholders;
• Research, analyze, develop, monitor, and evaluate programs and policies to effectively and creatively address problems and issues.

As the ideal candidate, you will have:
• The ability to develop and maintain collaborative working relationships and facilitate effective engagement;
• Exceptional writing, editing, analysis, and research skills (both quantitative and qualitative) to identify and develop options and solutions;
• The ability to explain technical and nontechnical information, both in writing and verbally, to a variety of stakeholders with varying levels of understanding;
• Knowledge of relevant acts and programs, government planning and decision-making processes, and stakeholders in solid waste management;
• Knowledge of sustainable development, waste management, and environmental protection management;
• The ability to demonstrate an understanding of the role of the public servant in executing government-directed policy.

Typically, the skills and knowledge required for this position would be gained through a combination of a graduate degree in Environmental Sciences or Public Policy and several years of experience in policy and program delivery in the environmental field. You will also have demonstrated the ability to adhere to the values of the Saskatchewan Public Service.

The salary for this position will be updated to $48.852 - $61.219 once the Class Plan Renewal process is completed and the HR system has been updated.
