JOB OVERVIEW

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Mechanical Plant Engineer/Officer.

Reporting to the Production Supervisor Technical, this position is responsible to contribute and perform work that is necessary for the continuous safe, efficient and economical commissioning and operation of our thermal and hydroelectric generating station assets.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
• Conduct mechanical engineering assessments, studies, inspections, investigations, designs, and evaluations for continuous safe, efficient and economical commissioning and operation of boilers, turbine generators (thermal and Hydroelectric), turbine regulating equipment, flow control equipment, lifting equipment, fuel handling systems and associated auxiliary plant systems (Service Water Systems, Fire Protection Systems, Compressed Air Systems, Drainage and Dewatering systems, Domestic Water and Sewage Handling Systems, HVAC, Oil Handling Systems and Elevators).
• Preparation of drawings, technical specifications, construction estimates, Inspection-Test Plans and Commissioning Plans; Provide technical information, as directed, for station maintenance, operations, performance, design and commissioning.
• Support project management activities (e.g. front-end planning, cost estimating, quality monitoring).
• Collaborate with customers, stakeholders, consultants, contractors, and government agencies as required.
• Respond to emergencies, equipment failures or unsatisfactory performance, conduct field investigations, prepare technical reports, and recommend actions.
• Prepare plans, standards and technical procedures for inspection, maintenance and asset-life management programs; participate in technical studies; Serve on project teams or task groups
• Participate and contribute to Pre-start health and safety reviews, investigation of safety or technical incidents.

QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
• Minimum 2 years' experience as a Mechanical Engineer in an industrial setting
• Exposure to working in an industrial environment with rotating machinery, materials, welding, regulated pressure boundary and field trades support.
• Exposure or knowledge of working in an electricity generating facility is considered an asset.
• Experience with planning and conducting assessments, testing, studies, inspections, investigations, design, evaluations, construction monitoring & maintenance of mechanical works associated with generating stations.
• Willingness to travel via road, airplane, float plane, helicopter etc. 10% of time
• Willingness to work in a remote location like Atikokan (located in North West Ontario).
• Candidate must be a fully licensed engineer in the province of Ontario, or be eligible to be licensed in the Province of Ontario
