About the position

The Senior Origination & Carbon Trading Portfolio Analyst at SoCalGas plays a crucial role in developing and presenting procurement plans, managing carbon emissions portfolios, and conducting market analysis to support the company's sustainability goals. This position involves collaboration with various stakeholders to align activities with California's climate objectives and regulatory frameworks, while also providing insights into market conditions and compliance requirements.

Responsibilities
• Develop and present procurement plans to stakeholders.
,
• Assist in execution and management of carbon emissions/compliance portfolio.
,
• Perform analysis of emissions and relevant markets for strategic activities.
,
• Lead reporting requirements and cross-functional communication with regulatory and operational departments.
,
• Support Clean Fuels and Cap & Trade program compliance through market data analysis.
,
• Quantify the impact of carbon procurement costs on customer bills and present findings to leadership.
,
• Develop procurement strategy for compliance instruments to meet emission obligations.
,
• Manage data flows to/from RNG producers for environmental credit issuance.
,
• Support origination efforts through communication and presentation materials for procurement events.
,
• Maintain relationships with prospective RNG project developers.

Requirements
• Bachelor's Degree in Business, Economics, or Quantitative Methods.
,
• 8 years of experience in the energy industry or related field.
,
• 2 years of experience in trading and valuation of financial derivatives.
,
• Thorough understanding of business practices, energy transition, and financial markets.
,
• Ability to manage complex multiple tasks simultaneously.
,
• Highly skilled in spreadsheets and database software; knowledge of programming languages.
,
• Knowledge of energy industry best practices.
,
• Skilled in quantitative methods such as statistics and econometrics.
,
• Knowledge of regulatory issues facing Gas Acquisition.
,
• Knowledge of commodity market modeling and price forecasting techniques.
,
• Strong verbal and presentation skills.
,
• Ability to perform complex analysis and modeling.

Nice-to-haves
• Master's Degree in Business, Economics, or Quantitative Methods.
