Role Description

The Mechanical Engineering team at Form is focused on designing the battery cell, module, and system enclosure that forms the foundation of our innovative utility-scale multi-day energy storage system. We strive to deliver designs that are optimized for performance, quality, reliability, and cost for high-volume manufacturing at Form Factory.

We're hiring an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the cross functional interface between our Mechanical Design teams and our Manufacturing Engineering teams. As part of our Cell Mechanical Design team, you will ideate, define, and validate the key structural elements of the cell in collaboration with test engineering, manufacturing, supply, reliability and quality teams. This role is based out of our Weirton, WV facility. Relocation support is available.
What you'll do:
• Lead the design of the next generation of the cell vessel structure, particularly in the design of large-format plastic components and assemblies
• Lead the design of internal structural elements of the cell, accounting for diverse environmental and stress conditions
• Collaborate closely with manufacturing engineers to identify problem areas in cell design or assembly
• Lead design revisions and validation to address problem areas
• Develop functional requirements in close collaboration with members of the Cell Engineering and Systems Engineering teams
• Define and drive necessary analysis (e.g., FEA), hands-on testing, and failure analysis of cell structural components
• Analyze component and assembly tolerances and develop cost/manufacturing/performance/reliability trades
• Collaborate with module design engineers to ensure seamless integration of all components
• Establish efficient feedback loops between manufacturing engineering and design engineering teams
• Guide manufacturing engineers and technical operations to transition designs from the prototype stage to high-volume production

What you'll bring:
• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field;
Bachelor's with 5+ years of industry experience in mechanical design and high proficiency in CAD
• Demonstrated experience in plastic component design for structural applications
• Excellent communication, organizational skills
• Demonstrated experience translating Manufacturing Engineering feedback to Mechanical Design teams
• Experience with working in a manufacturing environment and with contract manufacturing suppliers
• Direct experience with high-volume manufacturing, fabrication, and prototyping techniques; experience with tight-tolerance, multi-material component design for harsh environments
