Job Description
Climate Policy Initiative is seeking a Senior Manager/Manager, Finance to oversee FP&A and project finance. This role involves financial forecasting, performance analysis, and project oversight, reporting to the Global Finance Director. The position is open to applicants from any CPI office globally, emphasizing collaboration with project teams to ensure effective financial management. Salary ranges from $105,000 to $160,000 depending on experience.

About the role
The Senior Manager, Finance provides senior FP&A leadership and project finance oversight across CPI, with responsibility for forecasting, financial performance analysis, and portfolio-level planning. Reporting to the Global Finance Director, this role partners closely with project delivery teams to ensure financial insight, reforecasting, and resource planning support high-quality delivery and informed decision-making.
Key responsibilities
FP&A, Forecasting & Financial Planning
Lead the preparation and consolidation of organization-wide forecasts and financial plans, supporting annual budgeting and rolling forecast cycles.Own and maintain financial models and tools used for forecasting, scenario analysis, and performance tracking.Analyze financial performance against budget and forecast, identifying drivers, trends, and risks, and communicating insights clearly to leadership.Support senior finance leadership with forward-looking analysis to inform planning and prioritization.
Project Finance & Portfolio Oversight
Oversee financial performance across a portfolio of projects, providing guidance to project and program teams on budgeting, forecasting, and financial management.Support project leaders with reforecasting, staffing assumptions, and cost management to address emerging delivery risks.Ensure financial planning and analysis appropriately reflect donor and contract constraints, coordinating closely with Grants & Contracts finance.Maintain portfolio-level visibility of burn rates, cost recovery, and financial risks.
Financial Reporting, Controls & Quality Assurance
Ensure high standards of accuracy, consistency, and timeliness in FP&A and project finance reporting outputs.Review and quality-assure financial analyses and reports produced by the finance team.Support audit readiness and documentation for FP&A-related processes, in coordination with Grants & Contracts and accounting teams.
Systems, Tools & Continuous Improvement
Lead improvements to budgeting, forecasting, and reporting tools to enhance efficiency, consistency, and usability.Drive standardization of financial assumptions, templates, and guidance across projects and teams.Identify and implement process improvements that strengthen financial planning and performance management.
Team Leadership & Cross-Organizational Collaboration
Directly manage the Financial Reporting Analyst, providing clear priorities, coaching, and performance feedback.Support development of analytical capability and ownership within the finance team.Collaborate effectively with program, operations, and finance colleagues across regions.Act as a senior finance partner to project teams, reinforcing CPI values of rigor, collaboration, and accountability.
Qualifications and Experience
Minimum 35 years progressive experience in FP&A, project finance, or financial management.Demonstrated experience overseeing multiple projects or a financial portfolio.Experience managing or mentoring junior staff.Advanced financial modeling and analysis skills; strong Excel required.Ability to communicate complex financial information clearly to non-finance stakeholders and senior leaders.
