Your Impact
You will take ownership of all aspects of the firm's sustainable procurement strategy that relate to the environment. Working in close collaboration with colleagues on Optimize's Travel and Social Responsibility teams, you will refine and shape our strategy to advance environmental sustainability - with a particular focus on decarbonization - tailored to the context of McKinsey's supply chain. You will stay on top of and drive cutting edge thinking in the field through participation in relevant convening organizations; collaboration with leading researchers; etc. You will also weave extensive subject matter expertise on relevant frameworks, convening organizations, stakeholders, and reporting requirements (CDP, UNGC, GRI, Ecovadis, TCFD) into McKinsey's sustainable procurement strategy. You will tailor your knowledge to specific internal and external clients, using expertise to develop insights & recommendations. You will syndicate recommendations with stakeholders (including senior leaders); build the sustainable procurement strategy into processes to ensure environmental sustainability is part of business-as-usual; act as a change catalyst to drive and implement change management efforts; and lead implementation of Optimize's supply chain environmental sustainability strategy. In partnership with category leadership, you will engage with suppliers as they embark on their environmental sustainability journeys, encouraging them and working with them to enable them to adhere to McKinsey's environmental sustainability standards and proactively identifying collaboration opportunities. You will gather, analyze, and integrate information from internal and external stakeholders (including structured sustainability disclosures, supplier survey responses, and unstructured data); create an understanding of the state of environmental sustainability and supplier behavior in McKinsey's supply chain; and provide timely and accurate commentary and statistics related to McKinsey's sustainable procurement strategy in fulfilment of McKinsey's various external disclosure and reporting requirements. You will potentially build and oversee a team to achieve performance of these responsibilities.

Your Growth

Optimize is the global third-party management capability of the firm, enhancing and protecting the firm's resources and reputation by making responsible buying easy and creating leading solutions and experiences across our supplier ecosystem. In this role, you will work with leaders and colleagues across Optimize - and stakeholders across the firm (e.g., Global Sustainability, Finance) - as you shape, support, and deliver on McKinsey's sustainable procurement strategy. You will collaborate closely with a wide range of Optimize category leaders, including particularly close work with Optimize's regional director of travel on topics related to environmental sustainability in the air travel, lodging, and ground transportation domains.
