Job Description

ReNew is seeking a Senior Manager - Carbon Projects in Gurugram, India, to lead the identification and development of carbon offset projects across India, Africa, and South Asia. The role involves project origination, structuring, due diligence, and financial modeling, requiring expertise in carbon markets and sustainability. Candidates should have a master's degree and at least 5 years of relevant experience. This is a full-time position.
Job Purpose:-

We are looking for an experienced and entrepreneurial Senior Manager to join our growing Carbon Credit team. This role is pivotal in identifying, evaluating, and originating carbon offset projects across India, Africa, and South Asia. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in carbon markets, sustainability, and financial modeling, with hands-on experience in developing nature-based and community-level carbon interventions.

Responsibilities:

Project Origination & Lead Generation
• Scout and originate high-quality carbon offset projects in geographies across India, Africa, and South Asia.
• Build a pipeline of project leads through partnerships with NGOs, local communities, government agencies, and technical partners.
• Maintain a forward-looking strategy to align projects with future carbon market trends and regulatory frameworks.

Project Structuring & Due Diligence
• Conduct comprehensive due diligence including technical, environmental, socio-economic, and commercial assessments.
• Evaluate project feasibility, risks, and impact potential in alignment with international carbon crediting standards (e.g., Verra, Gold Standard).
• Ensure projects are structured for scalability and long-term carbon credit generation.

Project Categories
• Lead initiatives under:
• Nature-based Solutions (NbS): Afforestation, Reforestation & Revegetation (ARR), Mangrove restoration, Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD) in paddy fields, etc.
• Community-based Projects: Clean cooking, safe drinking water access, decentralized renewables.
• Emerging Methods: Biochar and other innovative carbon removal technologies.

Investment Committee Readiness
• Own the end-to-end process of preparing investment memos and presenting high-potential projects to the Investment Committee for funding approval.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with legal, finance, sustainability, and operations teams to ensure alignment and readiness.

Financial Modelling & Business Case Development
• Develop and manage comprehensive financial models that reflect all key project elements including capex/opex, revenue forecasts, carbon pricing scenarios, and payback periods.
• Analyze sensitivities and present clear insights for investment decision-making.

Eligibility Criteria:
• Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Agriculture, Sustainability, Finance, Economics, or related fields. An MBA with sustainability or development sector exposure will be an added advantage.
• Should have 5+ years of experience of carbon project methodologies, especially under Verra and Gold Standard.
• Expertise in financial modeling, carbon yield estimation, and integrating cross-disciplinary data (technical, financial, and environmental).
• Working knowledge of MRV (Monitoring, Reporting, Verification) protocols.
• Deep interest or experience in climate change, agriculture, land use, and sustainability.
