Job Description

The Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) is seeking a Senior Linear Programmer for a 12-month fixed-term contract based in Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide, or Perth. This role involves leading the development of real-time power system operation software solutions, engaging with stakeholders, and ensuring ongoing support for software enhancements. Candidates should have experience in algorithmic systems, linear programming, and project delivery, preferably within the energy sector.
This is a 12 Month Fixed Term Contract (FTC) position based in Mel/Syd/Brisbane/Adelaide/Perth.

About The Team & The Position

As a critical member of the WEM (Wholesale Electricity Market) Operation Solutions team, the Senior Optimisation Developer will be responsible for leading the development of critical real-time power system operation software solutions; working closely with integration teams and other development teams to design, build and commission those solutions; engaging with subject matter experts and business stakeholders to ensure requirements are met; and supporting readiness and transitional activities.

The role will then be the subject matter expert, responsible for ensuring sufficient knowledge and capability exists within the WEM Operation Solutions team to provide ongoing support and enhancements for the software delivered during the program.

This role would need to support successful implementation of critical programs and projects for WA portfolio from time to time.

Position Responsibilities
• Lead engagement with SMEs and internal stakeholders to develop critical power system operation software solutions, primarily focussed on development WEM dispatch solution.
• Work with Project Managers and Project Leads to deliver software solutions and lead engagement with integration and development teams.
• Support Production Readiness activities and material development.
• Work with Principal Test to prepare for and manage Participant Interface Testing and Market Trial activities identify risks to Go Live and implement actions to mitigate risk.
• Lead engagement and consultation with internal support teams in order to develop transition to support plans and materials.
• SME for ongoing support and enhancements for the Power Systems.
• Active and visible support of relevant Workplace Health and Safety, Anti-Discrimination, and Competition and Consumer Acts

Position Requirements

Skills & Experience:
• Proven experience building or supporting algorithmic systems (operational or project based), preferably in the energy sector or other utilities.
• Significant experience in linear programming or similar analytical development experience required.
• Experience in .net language preferred and strong experience in successful project delivery.
• Experience in power system/power market operation or power system planning preferable.
• An understanding of the WA Govt's Energy Transformation Strategy (ETS) and the proposed WEM Reforms preferable
• Excellent stakeholder relations capabilities with the ability to form strong, trusting relationships with key stakeholders.
• Significant experience in dealing with a range of complex business requirements and providing robust solutions in a timely manner.
• Proven analytical skills, with the ability to deal with a range of complex issues concurrently, propose evidenced-based solutions to issues and execute solutions in a constructive/timely manner.
• Demonstrated experience in developing technical documents. Strong ability to develop high quality written reports and deliver effective presentations which communicate highly technical, complex concepts or comprehensive multifaceted data analysis to audiences with a range of backgrounds.

Education/ Professional Certifications
• Tertiary and/or postgraduate in engineering, mathematics, science, information technology or a similar analytical discipline desirable.
