Resolute is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel for its Environment, Paper & Packaging division in Fort Mill, SC. The role involves providing legal advice on environmental compliance, leading permitting efforts, and managing litigation. Candidates should have 3-7 years of legal experience in environmental law. The location in Fort Mill, (South Carolina, United States), is seeking talent to fill the position of Senior Legal Counsel, Environment, Paper & Packaging, reporting to the VP, Associate General Counsel, Legal Affairs, Paper & Packaging. This job is full-time permanent position.

Position Summary: Provide legal services and advise the Paper & Packaging Business Unit (Unit) personnel from various departments and facilities in relation to the Unit’s activities and operations in the United States, ensuring that the Unit’s, and the Company’s, objectives and interests are protected and furthered, as well as carried out in a manner that is in conformity with all applicable environmental policies, laws and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:
• Provide expert legal counsel on environmental requirements to ensure compliance in our sites' day-to-day operations.
• Support environmental due diligence efforts on transactions.
• Lead complex permitting efforts by forming teams of functional and operational experts, developing permitting strategies, and directing their execution.
• Identify emerging new environmental laws/regulations and proposed changes to existing regulations, assessing their impacts on the Unit and the Company.
• Lead advocacy efforts on proposed environmental regulatory developments, including drafting official comments on behalf of the Company.
• Conduct internal investigations into allegations of non-compliance with environmental laws and regulations.
• Respond to formal and informal notices of environmental non-compliance received from regulatory bodies.
• Participate on the Sustainability Committee, CSRD and in the global ESG audit programs.
• Manage environmental litigation matters, including managing external counsel.

Qualifications:
• Must be a graduate of an accredited law school and admitted to a state bar
• Minimum of 3-7 years of legal experience with environmental matters
• Relevant junior associate experience with a law firm is a plus
• Prior in-house experience in or related to the pulp and paper industry is a plus
• Knowledgeable, experienced, and effective
• Client focused
• Possesses excellent interpersonal and communications skills both written and oral
• Ability to understand and clearly explain complex topics to a range of stakeholders
• Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems
• Demonstrated ability to lead and execute programs/projects
• Hybrid work environment with a physical presence based out of the Fort Mill, SC office
• Regular travel to Montreal corporate office required
