Essential Energy is seeking a Senior Grid Connections Specialist for Intium in New South Wales, Australia. The role involves providing expert consultancy in power system analysis, leading modeling efforts, and ensuring compliance with industry standards for grid connections. The specialist will build relationships with clients and stakeholders, deliver strategic guidance, and oversee the design and implementation of energy solutions to support Australia's transition to a clean energy future.

Position Overview:

The Senior Grid Connections Specialist is responsible for providing expert support and consultancy services, identifying, and supporting clients with the required connections and power system analysis activities. This involves leading the delivery of modelling and analysis to support the provisions of expert advice and support to the clients regarding the power system analysis requirements for develop network solutions; plan, control and operated the network, and connect to the National Electricity Market (NEM).

The position will deliver high-level strategic guidance and technical expertise as subject matter expert to clients regarding Connections solutions, products and services and will work closely with various stakeholders within Intium to ensure successful project outcomes. The role is key to delivering complex and cross-functional Connection solutions for internal and external clients by providing expert advice on design, implementation and optimisation as part of Intium’s business outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:
• Secure engagements with clients and develop trusted and enduring relationships and ensure there is alignment between the Intium team objectives to match client and project opportunities, including technology providers, regulatory bodies and utilities to ensure alignment with industry standards and project objectives.
• Ensure Intium is identifying and integrating industry best practice and industry leading advisory services in relations to power system analysis activities require for network planning, operation and connections.
• Provide expert technical advice for the facilitation of client project discussions with regulatory stakeholders to support commercial outcomes for the client.
• Conduct feasibility studies, grid connection studies, and power system simulations, ensuring compliance with industry standards, regulations, and best practices, including power system models for connection of the generators, loads, and storages and configure them to align with the local and national regulations.
• Generating models, studies and reports for network services providers, the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO), developers and industrial clients and serve as the primary technical liaison with AEMO and Network Service Providers (NSPs), ensuring that all grid connection applications and compliance requirements are met throughout the project lifecycle.Oversee the design, analysis, and implementation of power systems for renewable energy projects, conducting preliminary transmission network analysis to assess connection locations and capacity; including managing the entire grid connection process for utility-scale solar and BESS projects, from initial application to final connection, including preparation and submission of grid connection applications (R0, R1), ASP 3 design ensuring they meet all regulatory requirements.

About You

To be successful in this position, you will possess:
• Extensive experience as a power systems engineer, including experience as an engineering leader with demonstrated capability within transmission system, distribution system and the evolving energy industry.
• Comprehensive understanding of National Electricity Rules (NER), Network Service Providers (NSPs) and AEMO roles, responsibilities, processes and portfolio, including renewable energy connections.
• Demonstrated experience in utilising analytical tools and technical knowledge to provide viable solutions to power systems problems.
• Advanced knowledge and experience in applying power system modelling tools for technical studies.
• Comprehensive understanding of the utilities industry, energy markets and, traditional, existing, and emerging energy systems and technologies
• Experience and knowledge of the legislative, regulatory and policy framework affecting the corporate governance requirements of energy transmission, distribution, utility and infrastructure businesses.

Qualifications Required:

Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical) or demonstrated capability through past employment experience and/or relevant qualifications.
