Role Description


This is a full-time hybrid role based in Dartington, Devon. However, for the right candidate, location may be negotiable.

As a Senior Geomorphologist, you will be responsible for conducting geomorphological assessments, developing river restoration and conservation strategies, and collaborating on designing fish pass structures and habitat enhancements. You will gather field data, perform analysis, prepare detailed reports, and liaise with clients and stakeholders. The role includes contributing to multidisciplinary teams and supporting ongoing projects in the UK and internationally.
Qualifications
• Strong background in fluvial geomorphology, sediment transport, and river system dynamics
• Proficiency in GIS
• Experience in fieldwork, data collection, and analysis related to rivers and aquatic systems
• Excellent technical writing, reporting, and communication skills
• Ability to develop practical solutions for river restoration, fish passage, and habitat improvement
• Knowledge of relevant environmental regulations, policies, and best practices
• A degree in geomorphology, environmental science, geology, or a related field
• Experience with inter-disciplinary collaboration, including fisheries and ecological experts
• Ability to support with buisness development and writing proposals
• High level of independant working and ownership of projects
• Excellent report writing and data analysis
• Good communication skills
• A valid driving license and the ability to travel for fieldwork and client meetings as require
Typical Projects and Work Activities


The successful candidate will contribute to a diverse portfolio of river restoration, geomorphology and environmental enhancement projects across the UK.

Fishtek delivers process-led, evidence-based solutions that restore natural river function while addressing flood risk, biodiversity and infrastructure challenges.

Typical projects include
• River restoration and naturalisation schemes, including channel realignment, floodplain reconnection, sediment management and habitat enhancement design;
• Natural Flood Management (NFM) projects such as wetland creation, offline storage features, leaky barriers, and catchment-scale runoff attenuation schemes;
• Fish passage and river connectivity improvements, including feasibility assessments and design of rock ramps, nature-like bypass channels, and barrier modification or removal;
• Geomorphological and hydromorphological assessments, supporting Water Framework Directive (WFD) objectives, environmental permitting and restoration planning;
• Feasibility studies, options appraisals and outline to detailed design, integrating geomorphology, hydraulics, ecology and engineering considerations;
• Field surveys and data interpretation, including geomorphological mapping, sediment assessments, topographic survey integration and analysis of LiDAR and GIS datasets;
• Construction support and adaptive delivery, working alongside engineers, ecologists and contractors to ensure restoration works align with natural processes and project objectives.

Projects are delivered for a range of clients including the Environment Agency, rivers trusts, wildlife trusts, local authorities and private landowners, often within environmentally designated landscapes and complex stakeholder settings.
