Job Description

Kaskaskia Engineering Group, LLC seeks a Senior Environmental Planner with 8-14 years of experience in civil engineering or planning. The role involves project management, preparing NEPA documents, and mentoring team members. Candidates should have a relevant bachelor's degree, GIS experience, and familiarity with environmental compliance. The position is based in Belleville, IL, but remote work is possible depending on travel capability to project sites.
Kaskaskia Engineering Group, LLC is searching for a Senior Environmental Planner to join our Planning and Preliminary Studies Team. Ideal candidates will have a minimum of 8-14 years of progressive experience in the civil engineering or planning industry. This position would report to the Deputy Environmental Team Lead for NEPA. The candidate must reside in Illinois, Missouri, Minnesota, or Indiana, but remote work is a possibility for this position, depending upon the candidate’s ability to travel between KEG offices and project locations as needed.

Requirements

· Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Planning, Geography, or Environmental Science An advanced degree (Master’s) in one of these areas is preferred but not required.

· A minimum of 8 years of experience in transportation planning, engineering, environmental science and/or environmental engineering for civil infrastructure projects.

· Experience with project management in a deputy project manager and/or Task Lead role.

· Experience in preparing National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) documents and state-level environmental compliance documents primarily for transportation sector projects.

· Experience supporting stakeholder and public involvement activities, messaging and deliverables.

· Experience mentoring and overseeing other team members in the preparation of NEPA or planning level documents.

· Possess some experience with the types of field studies needed for NEPA documents.

· Experience working on projects with DOTs and other state and federal agencies.

· Professional experience working with GIS software, such as ArcPro.

· Experience performing multidimensional natural, human and transportation resource screenings is a plus.

· Demonstrated experience organizing multiple datasets, file sharing, and document management and version control.

· Some travel is required for project-related meetings, events or conferences.

Responsibilities

· Performing some project management or deputy project management responsibilities including awareness and oversight of project scope, schedule and budgets. Tracking task assignments and relaying key messages to other project team members. Client and team member coordination and collaboration.

· Preparing environmental documents for Planning and Environmental Linkages (PEL) studies, Categorical Exclusions (CEs), Environmental Assessments (EAs), and/or Environmental Impact Statements (EISs), Section 4(f) Statements, Section 7 biological assessments, and other necessary materials and reports.

· Performing analyses and preparing the associated technical environmental documents for both natural and man-made environment subject areas, including wetland and stream delineations, noise studies, air quality studies, socioeconomic and land use analyses, environmental justice or Civil Rights Act studies, cumulative impact analyses and other environmental studies.

· Support the Environmental Team Lead and Deputy Team Leads in mentoring other team members and QA/QC of project deliverables.

· Experience performing environmental impact analyses, including but not limited to stream and wetland impact analyses, botanical and forest impact analyses, threatened & endangered species impact analyses, floodplain and water quality impact analyses, preliminary environmental site assessments (PESAs), and other natural resources analyses are a plus.
